Just back from three days in hospital because of "myocardial infarction". I'd felt crummy on Sunday and Monday, but did not have symptoms that would make sense to go to the ER. After all, feeling crummy isn't at all specific or helpful to the docs.
Tuesday morning I felt so awful I couldn't get out of bed, and when I finally did, I called 911. This is the second time I've ever called them, and they are wonderful. This time I had serious chest pain, and the 20 or 30 minutes it took to get to the hospital were very difficult. But when we got there, I was well taken care of, got appropriate care, and now I'm home, lucky me.
As I was posting this, I realized that heart issues are extremely common, and so the medical field is good at dealing with them, and that got me thinking about how much worse it would be to have some rate disease they know little about.
Again, lucky me.

(7,827 posts)You are so correct, the things they can do now are amazing, and it seems like there's a new amazing thing every week.

(28,375 posts)Despite this, I consider myself the healthiest person I know. I recover very fast from anything. Two weeks after my first heart attack in 2020, I saw my cardiologist two weeks later, and he told me if he had not actually seen me in the ER, he would never had guessed I was just past a heart attack.

(28,375 posts)Never anything major, usually a toe. Several years ago I was thinking, hmmm, it's been a while since I've broken anything. Inside two weeks I broke two toes and one arm. The arm needed a sling literally for just a day and then I was fine.

(28,375 posts)The basics: more fruit, veggies, fresh food.
It helps a lot that I eat very little pre-prepared stuff. I do like to cook. My main problem these days is that I live alone, have a small appetite, and don't want to eat the same thing three days in a row.

Make any recipe but just cut in half or thirds.
I did miss your posts but didnt think too much of it because sometimes you skip days without writing a post.
Glad you're ok.

(28,375 posts)stupid gowns. Whoever orders them for the hospital apparently thinks all the patients are at least six feet tall and proportionate to that weight. I am a woman, despite my screen name, and at the risk of too much information, It was awful because the gowns kept on getting in the toilet when I peed. What's the problem with having at least two different sizes?
I'm 5' 1.5 inches tall, weigh 105 pounds. The gowns kept on literally falling off me if I tried to stand up and walk at all. I'm going to organize a "go to hospital" bag with the basics, especially my denture adhesive. At least they had that in the hospital pharmacy for me.

(25,792 posts)Hope you are following up with a good cardiologist.
I'm seeing a cardiologist now for weird blood pressure issues, trying different meds. Last night was horrible, only got 4 hrs sleep, but I learned a lesson so hopefully tonight will be better. Lesson - take the nightly Amlodopine right after dinner, don't wait and take it late.
Us older folks have to really pay attention to our hearts.

(28,375 posts)Right now I don't need a lot of help with things, but we are all happy to help each other out here.
I have two cats, and having people right here who can stop in and take care of them is enormous. I did have good neighbors where I lived before, but this is better for me, at least right now.

(21,864 posts)in your area, I recommend them for good information. It is scary after one of those so the classes are good for giving you direction. I now go to the gym and do the same exercises I learned in the classes so it seems safer. Hearts can heal from those things!

(22,806 posts)But you gave it away. I am sure you're on whatever can help with the bones and good luck keeping them intact. I read some material on preventing falls, and how to get up. I'll look it up.
Sounds like you've got fighting spirit and some helpful friends. So glad that you do.
Best wishes.

(28,375 posts)I really need to do as little as possible for a few days. Right now I'm having a fair amount of dizziness and I'm not entirely sure why. I just hope it's not a side-effect of medication, or that I adjust to the meds and it goes away. Meanwhile, I'm glad I am in the senior living place, as so much can be taken care of for me. On Fridays we can sign up for a lunch outing, and I always sign up for those. It's a nice change from here.
Despite this event, and occasional other such, I still consider myself the healthiest person I know, and I still have plans for my 97th birthday.
