But I did want to say that I don’t think that is about smarts.
About 14 years ago I had a really nasty shock. Changed my perspective of reality overall and it took me a long time to recover.

The second Trump admin has actually helped restore my old perspective a lot. Our brains are strange beasts. These extremely complex problem solving tools we barely understand and yet carry around on us with a false sense of ownership over something we barely understand. But they are powerful and lately I have had a dawning recognition, an AHA
moment if you will:

It has made me realize why I have always found something incongruous about our horrible, destructive species-humans.

We are clever after a fashion, but we are so absolutely awful. How are we the dominant species taking down all of the biosphere since we don’t seem that bright in any real sense?

It’s that we are good at bullying. Most of our tools go towards war, hedonism and displays. That confuses the brain. Further, the program of brainwashing starts at birth when you are not explicitly told from the time you are born “Oh btw you are a member of this really stupid species. No one will explicitly tell you this though all your life you will have a vague suspicion this is true and the dumbest members of your species will be the most supremacist and chauvinistic. The second dumbest people just react to the dumbest and never actually think about anything nor examine anything seriously and get angry and attack you if you point out that this is stupid”.

But actually we are a very stupid species. This constant myth about human progress where thanks to a few scientists (and those not very responsible people since they teach the species how to build stuff we don’t want or need, but absolutely nothing about how to be a less destructive species) we have all these tools and goodies, but no bloody common sense wrt how to not wipe ourselves out.

I have an answer to Fermi’s question lately. Where is everybody?

Where is everyone? If I were a super intelligent alien, I would absolutely avoid us.
We have to be the sort of pariah species everyone else hopes never gets more technology and I agree with that.

I’d be like the pacifist in the 3-body problem if aliens contacted me and say “Hey don’t come here. These fuckers are crazy. It’s the Idiocracy. We are all Maga and Maha etc over here. Just stay away from us. We are really stupid and would destroy anything cool.”

It why except logically, it’s so difficult to have a sense of “we” with so much of the species.

Coldly logically it is behaving stupidly to copy our stupidest instinct which is brutalizing anything we consider “stupid” such are other animals which would exist in some sort of equilibrium with reality over building a bunch of fugly malls, factory farms (which highlight our banally brainless brutishness further) and parking lots and thinking this is some sort of cosmic gift, when you are actually wiping out billions of years of non-human evolution with a bullshit narrative based in dominion theology dismissing animal cognition so we can gloss over how outrageously stupid all this is.

Every human impacted place first loses its richness and diversity in any real sense. True in every part of the globe.

I had some life changing epiphanies during this term.

I have been thinking about stupidity more and more. Encountering this female’s Substack caused an epiphany:

https://jessicareedkraus.substack.com/p/elizabeth-holmes-redemption-arc-loading

This is one of the most absolutely stupid people I have ever come across. It would be a punishment to hear this woman think or talk.
That’s “death where is thy sting” right there, being stuck being civil to that woman out of common compunction. As a thought experiment, that would be hell. I don’t think her followers get how crazy she is.

Then I saw this piece on stupidity by this environmental author I really like called Andrew Nikiforuk that I got via this other really cool environmental writer Chris Ketcham:

https://www.truthdig.com/articles/canadas-nicer-more-radical-bill-mckibben/

https://thetyee.ca/Culture/2025/07/25/Triumph-of-Stupidity/

As an environmentalist (the Chris Ketcham allied kind not Bill McKibben) I have thought about human stupidity all my life and then 14 years ago human stupidity came a lot closer and I had a breakdown. Now I am returning to normal having learnt a lot about how stupid people think.
Our elites are also disappointing-they have some skills and knowledge but they are craven, conviction-free assholes mostly who let mob rule or creep rule move history forward. That makes them stupid as well.

Reality is making me more radical as I grow older. Not like the Unabomber, but certainly I question the core assumptions of our idiotic societies more seriously all the time and way past most normal radicals.

God we are a stupid species…And in a fitting irony the stupidest among us are obsessed with IQ etc or equally lame metrics updated to give them some semblance of gravitas. The smart moron’s hedge is to attack someone’s sanity if the IQ thing is harder in a fair fight.

Beyond reprehensible…I am myself an unskilled person of at best mediocre talent. But I am not a moron. That’s why I would never work in media or politics or any human interaction centric anre etc. Fields that favor morons even more than most blah fields as it’s all surface.

Science and tech are trickier with a mix of bandits, the stupid and the (craven and douchey asshole) mediocre intelligent and a handful of legit intelligent adjusted for new realities people. That last group may or may not be of help. Who knows..

The actual scientific and medical elite are mostly usually too overworked and spot focused for the challenges of our times. That’s people like Dr Fauci. Really elite but too overworked ..and too forced into conventional roles only to be able to question these societies deeply. I have seen a few scientists or doctors who engage more politically and in better ways: Peter Kalmus, Clayton Dalton, Adam Becker..
Usually it’s a profession where personality wise the more left or liberal people will still feel a bit awkward about stuff that is not a cinch.
That’s why I liked Lina Khan. While I deride effciency as these creeps see it, a tumorigenic industry of growth around a cancer makes it worse. You need people like Khan. But that’s an area of effort that is confusing to most scientists.

Whatever technological changes occur, with this chain gang in power and with the colonization mentality that all humans have it will need real intellectual muscle used all the time to counter these turds. Because they infect a lot of the mentality that is forced on the left in confusing ways…the program seems to be to optimise the stupidity found anywhere to maximize WallE world. That’s pretty sneaky of machines if that is how they plan to take over the world. That could actually work. But I am being flippant of course.

The real problem is humans not machines. And the complete failure of people who should have known better to hold the truly accountable parties responsible, choosing instead to fixate on trivial shit while allowing this.

The thing that's protecting pedo Trump, aside from capitalism's worship of money grubbing and inherited wealth, are the oligarchy supporting him.

He isn't smart. He would get low marks on an IQ test. He talks like an idiot. A Smart man would at least pretend to be smart. He tries and he comes across as very stupid. A Smart person wouldn't have run a sex trafficking ring and raped 12 year olds because they would have known it would become public knowledge.

A Smart person looks to future outcomes. But pedo Trump can't. A Smart person thinks for himself and establishes valid moral standards to live by. Trump has no concept of morals or ethics. A smart man doesn't make his entire life all about gathering wealth.

And the oligarchy must have their stupid man to do their bidding. A Smart person would have realized what the end results would be and would have stopped kissing the asses of Thiel, Musk, Mellon, Adelson, Gates, Zuckerberg, Bezos and Harlan Crow.

The filthy-rich need an easily manipulated stupid man to gather the remains of the wealth of our nation and stuff it into their pockets. If they had placed a smart man in the presidency, that person may have realized what these oligarchs were doing and may not have done it.

Pedo Trump is a very stupid man and it's just what an oligarchy wants. Look at how smart Putin is. He is now in the process of killing off the Russian oligarchs and taking all their wealth for his war. American oligarchs avoid this by selecting a stupid man for president.

Age: 34 years old
He is the youngest mayor in over a century and New York's first Muslim and first African-born mayor.

That Mayor-elect Mamdani has access to the Epstein files.

That's my guess.

I'm certain his toadies have scrubbed anything compromising from the files, not to mention all he has to do is keep saying that the files are fake and he won't lose a single supporter.

Could be that he's exhausted from all the confrontation and is as easily manipulated as any other malignant narcissist.

This isn't really all that surprising considering how he behaved with MBS, pretend you like him and he crumples.

Trumps looks like some psycho character right before he murders someone. Brian Kilmeade said on FOX that JD Vance was "jealous". I wish Mamdani had said no.

Honestly I think Mamdani was the victor, the photos are not flattering to Trump, he looks like he's begging for affection and not at all like the alpha male his fans consider him.

If the GOP thinks Trump is going to protect them from communists like Mamdani, today was not a display that'll make them feel happy.

My apologies to dogs, but Trump looks like a labrador. He did not present as the senior partner in that relationship.

It brings to mind Elon Musk in the white house. Except, instead of insanity, you had a disciplined mayor elect laser (LASER) focused on affordability to the exclusion of all else. He barely moved.

He's increasingly isolated and it's taking a toll. I agree about Mamdani, his critics thought he wouldn't be able to hold his own but he did more than that.

But Mamdani has the same sort of charisma Obama and Bill Clinton have, when you meet them in person you're charmed, not because of anything calculated, but people always seemed to be so disarmed by Obama and Clinton when they met.

Trump is weak minded and easily charmed, manipulated, etc. "He called me a fascist. Oh, that's OK." When you think Donnie couldn't be a bigger maroon he surprises us.

I doubt he's gay, I think he loves himself alone and views sex as a way to dominate and since women are more vulnerable he preys on them.

And I'll guarantee Mandami kept asking Trump about his Real Estate Tycoon experience so Trump could keep answering "I knew a Guy....", or "That property would be good for mixing local housing and business, and maybe a couple penthouses to get the money in..."

Despite the sustained attempt to portray Mamdani as a dangerous jihadist he managed to get elected mayor of NYC. Maybe people should stop feeding the right and start supporting this Democrat.

He's probably doing the same hopeful routine every world leader or state governor does when newly elected, announce some vague plan to "work together on common goals," do research on how to manipulate and flatter him, kiss the ring.

Then reality kicks in.
