Jailhouse shock: Brazil coup monger Bolsonaro finally faces life behind bars

He fought the law and the law won.
Two months after receiving a 27-year sentence for trying to annihilate Brazils democratic institutions, former president Jair Bolsonaro finally looks jail-bound.
The convicted coup-monger who has been living under house arrest in his mansion while a series of legal procedures and appeals play out is widely expected to be incarcerated in the coming days, amid growing speculation that he will be sent to a notorious maximum security prison.
During Bolsonaros four-decade political career, the far-right former paratrooper showed little compassion for Brazils prison population.
Why should we give those dirtbags a good life? he once mused. They should just get fucked, full-fucking-stop. Thats what I reckon.
On another occasion, Bolsonaro proclaimed: If you dont want to end up there, all you have to do is not rape, kidnap or rob.

(291,437 posts)Brazils former far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been arrested at his villa in the capital, Brasília, amid suspicions he was poised to abscond to a foreign embassy to avoid going to prison for masterminding a military coup.
In a brief statement, federal police confirmed officers had executed a preventive arrest warrant at the request of the supreme court. The 70-year-old politician was taken to a federal police base, 7 miles from the presidential palace he occupied from 2019 until 2022, when he lost the election and tried to launch a military coup.
The arrest of Bolsonaro, who had been living under house arrest since August, was ordered by the supreme court justice, Alexandre de Moraes, as a result of fears the former president might make a run for one of Brasílias many diplomatic compounds to avoid punishment for the failed power grab.

Have to wonder if he was going to be transported to a waiting warship.
