The account @Polymarket posted this claim that mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani would "require all New York elementary school students to learn Arabic numerals."



MAGAs in the comments melted down.



We have "Didn't Trump just make English the official language of the USA? This is asinine."



Another person said, "No! American numerals only! Not terrorist numerals."



And a bunch of people saying something to the extent of: "The Islamification of New York begins."

And wait'll those kids get exposed to that radical Greek terror group, Trigonom-etri! Their cells are called "triangles", and to solve them, their sines and cosines have to be known. And they ARE allied with some of those Arabic numerals and al-Gebra terrorists. OMG! They'll be going off on some crazy tangents when the kids have to get into that!

Arabic numerals are the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 that are part of the Hindu-Arabic numeral system. This system is the most common number system worldwide today, though its origin is in ancient India, not the Arab world. The numerals spread to Europe via the Arab world, which is why they are often called "Arabic numerals".

The real Arabic numbers in the Arab world are different than what we commonly know as the "Arabic numerals", but folks cannot expect the radical right to know the difference.
