https://www.al.com/life/2025/11/doug-jones-will-enter-2026-alabama-governors-race.htmlFollowing weeks of hints and speculation, its official: former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones plans to enter the Alabama governors race against current U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville.
The news was first reported on The Voice of Alabama Politics, an online news and analysis show hosted by Bill Britt, editor of the Alabama Political Reporter. I got a call from those very, very close to former U.S. Senator Doug Jones, said Britt. And we can now report with certainty that Doug Jones will file his paperwork with the Secretary of State this coming week to run for governor of Alabama.
AL.com has independently confirmed that Jones intends to run.
Jones had previously hinted that he would seek the Democratic nomination. Asked about it at a forum held by U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell in Birmingham earlier this month, he said, Stay tuned.
Jones represented Alabama in the U.S. Senate from 2018 to 2021. He lost to former Auburn football coach Tuberville, who went on to become the states senior senator. Since announcing his candidacy for the governors office, Tuberville has been the presumptive favorite.

the cowardly will duck and am I am almost certain not debate Doug (he did this during the senate campaign).
There are good people throughout AL, but i also believe there is enough of the 'machine' that they will vote for tommy 'ears' tub-oh-shit and he will be elected governor.

(59,439 posts)Though Bubbaville does not have the child-molester label that plagued Jones opponent enough to allow Jones to sneak into the Senate in 2018, he HAS demonstrated much stupid during his Senate years. It remains to be seen if enough of the Alabama electorate has had enough of that stupid to deny coach Tommy the governors mansion. The black vote will either be enough to deliver the miracle, or it wont. The white vote in Alabama is already a foregone conclusion. Only the turnout will tell.

(112,262 posts)I am a college football fan, but was not paying attention during his years at Auburn--when they were pretty darned successful. For that reason, Auburn fans seem to think he is a smart guy. I have to think he must have had some tremendous assistant coaches/ defensive and offensive coordinators, and strategically-minded players. I cannot fathom that he was once not at all the dunce he is now.
But Alabamians chose to send Tuberville to the Senate and defeat Jones. Will they choose a sane choice of Jones this time? Sigh...
