Trump has struggled to bring the GOP back together after the party found itself split on economic issues and healthcare. The economic issue, Marcotte believes, is what is affecting Trump's second term most of all.
She said, "I do think that the economy is really
I mean, even Trump has been persuaded, obviously, that he should be worried about the bad economic news because hes trying to stick to talking points. He fails."
"But its clear that whoever sat him down and said, this affordability issue is going to hurt you, got through to him because hes trying to use the word, even though, you know, affordability sounds as weird in his mouth as saying please or thank you. Hes just incapable of understanding that people struggle to afford things.
"Even though hes been broke how many times. Because hes rich guy broke so he still has money to pay for whatever he wants. But its interesting."

(21,054 posts)His pathology has an interesting "wall switch."
When he encounters something that contradicts his self-image...such as his statement at the McDonald's meeting where he said "You don't know how lucky you are that I was re-elected"...it's not that he doesn't UNDERSTAND the contrary opinion. It's that he REJECTS it outright, and just flips that wall switch to the "off" position..."They're stupid because I just told them they are lucky to have me and they're complaining about eggs again, which can only mean one thing, and that it's they are stupid."
The tariffs raised prices for all Americans, and Trump bragged about "how much cash he took in."
So SOMEONE...who the hell knows WHO...actually got THROUGH to him, and said people are sick of paying $25 for a can of Maxwell House Coffee, so he said "OK, I'm gonna lower the tariffs that raised the price of coffee without admitting that my tariffs raised prices."
It's like trying to reason with a toddler. There is no "reasoning." It's just a room full of smiling sycophants nodding and thanking Trump for his "bold and decisive leadership" as he writes his name on the White House walls using his own poop...."Donny ROCKS."

(4,056 posts)... will be several days before someone is available to procure more. Maybe it would hit home. He's never had to do without anything, certainly not his basic needs, so it's a hard concept for him.

(21,054 posts)Even when his casinos and other business ventures were crashing and burning, he always seemed to find SOME BANK that would lend him MORE. He was the higest of high risk borrowers, with an EARNED reputation of someone who never paid his debts, and yet they kept showering him with cash, because he was Trump.
Nice work if you can get it, I guess.

(1,185 posts)Applies to the 20 + million multi-millionaires and over 800 billionaires currently (and all their heirs!) calling the United States home, as well as Trump. Until something is done to eliminate extreme wealth and wealth disparity, I'm afraid the rest of us are in it for the long haul.

(21,054 posts)The chronology is out there for anyone who wants it. I've posted it several times here. Short version:
1). Elizabeth Warren name-checked Musk in a call for billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes.
2). Musk got an immediate life-threatening attack of EXTREME BUTT HURT and called Warren "TAX KAREN."
3). One month later, he owned Twitter. The rest, unfortunately, is history.

I think he knew EXACTLY what he was doing, and he still does.
