Supreme Court poised to reshape next 3 election cycles

The Supreme Court is expected to rule any day on Texas's controversial congressional map, with a decision likely before Dec. 8, the filing deadline for candidates in Texas.

Why it matters: An anticipated ruling would mark the high court's first word on the redistricting wars that have defined the 2026 cycle. It wouldn't be the last.

Driving the news: On Tuesday night, Texas filed its final response for why its new map, drafted at President Trump's urging to give the GOP five new seats, should survive.

Justice Samuel A. Alito temporarily reinstated Texas' GOP-favored congressional map last week, after a district court tossed it. Since then, briefs have been flooding the court, from the actual parties to outside interest groups to the state of Missouri.

Being the Supreme Court of the whole United States, they have to know that whatever they decide for Texas is also the law of the land for populous states like New York, Illinois, California and Pennsylvania. Give Texas the right to unjustly disenfranchise its voters by gerrymander, they give that same right to other states that can more than compensate. Is Greg Abbott THAT important to Thomas and Alito? Maybe, but I don't think they'll render their decision on this lightly.

However, I think this SCOTUS will always find a way to carve out exceptions for Conservative/Red State priorities. Biden couldn't even get a favorable ruling on Student Loan debt and this SCOTUS has let Chump/DODGE destroy the Federal Government.

I hope you are right though.

Happy TDAY.

But we can never cease to toss these evil characters’ words back in their faces as often as we can. I know that in principle, they couldn’t give a rat’s ass, but constant media barrages about their one-sided rulings will have an effect sooner or later. Not that I hold any such hope for the smug pair of “Whatchagonnadoaboudits” i.e. Thomas and Alito. Those two will go their graves certain that some celestial entity wants people to suffer in misery as a direct result of their rulings. But I’m not sure that the other four of the Trump Six want their names similarly engraved in frozen shit for eternity. Maybe they do, but they also see in what low regard Scalia’s memory is held, and he, though equally evil, was both exceptionally intelligent and articulate, something none of the Trump Six can quite match. After all, there were many pirates, but only one Edward Teach.

THIS supreme court will always use loophole words on their decisions. Loopholes big enough for the rethugs to fly an airplane through.

They would 100% approve the TX map and disallow the CA changes because that is what these fuckers do - rig for the reich rich.

They approved NC's version last year and will approve this one as well. They are all in for the rich fascists and don't give one damn about the actual constitution.

If we elect courageous senators willing to kill the filibuster and expand the court.
