Oh Jesus Christ

"The FBI believes it has identified the suspect, multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the matter tell CNN. The initial identification matches a man from Washington state who appears to have immigrated from Afghanistan in August 2021, they said."

"initial identification"

Wonder if this will turn out to be bullshit, like the report they were both dead.

This guy probably served with US Guardsmen or other US military, and he (and family members) came over as part of the US withdrawal evacuation.
Current US immigration policy is to arrest and process asylum seekers for deportation. If he or his family members go back to Afghanistan, they are dead.
He was basically betrayed by the organization he risked life and family for. In many cultures, that's enough to go to war over.
Sigh.

Our government is good at breaking promises. It's been happening since before the beginning of our country. Too bad these two guardsmen had to pay the price for this broken promise.
