Obama To Congress: Come To A Deal – Or Else

Obama To Congress: Come To A Deal – Or Else

Following a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House on Friday, President Obama appeared before the press to urge all parties to take immediate action to reach a deal on the so-called fiscal cliff.

<...>

Obama announced that the fate of a potential deal lies with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who will work together to present a prospective package to their respective conferences over the weekend.

Should that effort fail, however, Obama indicated that he would call upon Reid to bring the original White House proposal -- extending Bush era tax rates on income below $250,000 including other measures -- for an up-or-down vote in the Senate.

"We should let everybody vote, that's the way this is supposed to work," Obama said.

Please let that mean the President's original proposal: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021905787

That would be sweet!

Bills not passed by both houses die at the end of a congress, and must be reintroduced and passed again.

In his first term, he was much fonder of the backroom deals than the bully pulpit and that bugged me. I'm glad that he is giving up the first in favor of the second. It makes him much more effective as a leader, in my eyes. So, it was a compliment, typed badly.
