Why Should Democrats Fix Republicans' Problems? - NYT's Jamelle Bouie

Should Democrats let the government shut down when funding runs out later this month? New York Times Opinion columnist Jamelle Bouie is “one hundred percent pro a shut down,” he says in a round table episode of “The Opinions” with Michelle Cottle, a writer for Opinion, and David French, a columnist. J

amelle argues that the Republican Party has “almost completely abdicated any serious attempt to govern the country” over the last 15 years and it’s finally time for Democrats to stop bailing them out.

And really fuck them.

They got trillions for billionaires and nothing for the American people. It's disgusting.

is not having to govern. In the absence of good policy, we are obligated only to resist.

So, resist.

Dissent.

Make clear the profanity of the GOP. Do not "own" policy discussions we cannot win. Do not empower a flank of your party to be "deal makers" and act as auxiliaries to those in power. Do not pretend you have a mandate.

Stop. Unify. Object. Resist. Dissent. We do not share any values with the governing majority.

But as far as fixing the problems with the Republicans. Well, I think we should concentrate on fixing the problems of Americans if that’s not too naïve. We can’t just go on funding all of their evil out of the US treasury.

I think voters will blame 'both' parties if we don't act like the adults in the room.
