What the rest of the world has to say about Trump's Venezuela actions. Battle lines are forming....

Colombia, which shares a border with Venezuela, called for urgent de-escalation.

Cuba called the operation a "criminal US attack."

The Brazilian president called the U.S. actions a "serious affront" to Venezuela's sovereignty.

China wants Maduro freed immediately, and depicted the U.S. strike as a "clear violation of international law."

Iran and Russia condemn U.S. action.

North Korea condemns U.S. operation.

EU nations call for de-escalation. "Under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected."

France's foreign minister declared it was “good news for the Venezuelans," however, "the method used infringes the principles of international law."

Spain's Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling for "de-escalation and moderation, and for action to always be taken in accordance with international law and the principles of the U.N. Charter.”

U.K. Prime Minister said all countries should "uphold international law" and added that the "U.K. was not involved in any way in this operation."

Netanyahu praises Trump.

The UN is a check on bullies. Don't want none of that when big wealth owns the world.

She will do whatever the military wants her to do.

That's why she's already saying they want Maduro and the wife released.

IOW they're saying they recognize her as the legally-valid current leader. Just like if Trump were suddenly kidnapped from the USA by hostile forces, the military would immediately recognize Vance as being the current Commander in Chief. But that's not quite the same idea as "putting her in charge".

The point that she probably needs to act in a way that keeps the military from pulling a coup against her is still a valid one, however. That may already be in the cards however. The US has been meddling there for a long time, under D and R admins, and when the USA acts in Central/South America regime changes, the preferred outcome is always for some US-friendly right-wing generalissimo (nearly always male) to grab power there. I'd bet money our regime has already ID'd their preferred new dicktator, and going by history, Maduro's female VP is not going to maintain power there for very long.

Sun Jan 4, 2026, 07:38 PM
Sunday

"Rome, Jan. 3 (LaPresse) – "Consistent with Italy’s historic position, the Government believes that external military action is not the path to end totalitarian regimes, but at the same time considers a defensive intervention against hybrid attacks on its own security legitimate, as in the case of state entities that support and promote drug trafficking." This was stated in a note from Palazzo Chigi following the U.S. attack in Venezuela. "The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has been monitoring developments in Venezuela from their earliest stages. Italy has always supported the Venezuelan people’s aspiration for a democratic transition in Venezuela, condemning acts of repression by the Maduro regime, whose self-proclaimed electoral victory Italy, along with major international partners, has never recognized," the note added."

The operative part of this is the part about:

" but at the same time considers a defensive intervention against hybrid attacks on its own security legitimate, as in the case of state entities that support and promote drug trafficking."

The PM is a staunch supporter of Crumb The 1st and I would point out that it doesn't mean squat whether she recognizes the election of Maduro and calls it "self-proclaimed" because that is misleading since the Venezuelan Supreme Court heard the challenges to the election results and declared Maduro the victor. Anybody can quibble or call the court into question but under international law and the constitution of Venezuela it was a settled matter. A sovereign nation does not need the "recognition" or approval by "major international partners" in order for their sovereignty and legal decisions under their constitution to require member nations of the UN to respect that sovereignty and the legal decisions of that nation.

We may hate their elected leader but no other nation has a legal right to use military force to do as the US just did.

He's a knowledgeable US Constitutional lawyer as well as a journalist, and he's lived in Brazil for I think about 20 years, since the NSA's warrantless surveillance controversy was exposed (as you'll recall, he was instrumental in helping to get Snowden's info out). Greenwald should have an informed opinion on what's happening now in V.

(He can be strident and sometimes speaks too broadly, and he's very critical of the MSM and Old Guard Dem establishment; but I find his legal analyses correct and his reporting on current events worth hearing.)

Putin will see this as Trump getting “too big for his britches.” Trump is turning into a dictator for the world and obviously thinks he can do anything to most any country that he wants. If Russia and China get even chummier, we could be in for WW3.

Certainly, Maduro is no saint. But leave it to a Donald Trump to turn a guy like that (and maybe Venezuela itself) into a victim...

of a blatantly obvious and illegal seizure of a sovereign country's assets. (F.K.A. 'imperial aggression.')

And Trump's threatening other countries too. Mexico, Cuba, Columbia, Nigeria, Greenland.... and counting??

ADOLPH would be proud.
