State investigators say they can't access ICE shooting evidence after FBI takes case

Updated 10:50 AM CST, January 8, 2026

The head of Minnesota’s state investigations agency said Thursday that the U.S. attorney’s office has barred it from taking part in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans said in a statement that after the agency consulted with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, the U.S. attorney’s office and the FBI following the Wednesday shooting of 37-year-old mother of three Renee Nicole Macklin Good, “it was decided that the BCA Force Investigations Unit would conduct a joint investigation with the FBI” and that the “BCA responded promptly to the scene and began coordinating investigative work in good faith.

He said the FBI informed the BCA later Wednesday that the U.S. attorney’s office had changed the plan.

“The investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation,” Evans wrote.

Look, just let him face charges. No one really thinks this guy at 20 steps removed from Trump reflects ON Trump…..except for Trump himself.

This is Kilmar Abrego Garcia all over again except that woman died in this case. They admitted they made a mistake with Garcia but Trump can’t let it go.

I don't have much faith the FBI will be allowed to hold ICE responsible.

No one trusts any agency that is tied to this Administration.

But, all we need to know for their investigation to disassemble is to find out if those two "officers" who ran back to their vehicle were wearing body cams. If they tried to remove/hide/destroy them, then the crime means that this goes way beyond one man who probably was rewarded when hired, for having hate in his heart.

The state better hurry up.

A state court cannot try or convict a person who has been pardoned by the federal government. The presidential pardon is a federal act and does not have the same legal effect as a state conviction. The pardon removes the legal consequences of the conviction but does not erase the conviction itself. Therefore, a state court cannot impose a new conviction or impose additional penalties based on the federal pardon.
