I feel bad for all the older folks for whom Donald Trump will be their last President...

A lot of them didn't vote for this bullshit and the fact that they need to witness the unraveling of the country they love in their golden years is incredibly disheartening. Now, I know a lot of younger people don't give a shit about older folks (They want to make them ineligible to run for office, they're okay with their Social Security getting axed, etc...so much ageism it's ridiculous). That said, everyone should think long and hard about how their parents and/or grandparents are receiving all of what is happening. A young, strong heart can endure a hell of a lot more heartache than can an older one. The same goes for the ability to fight. Imagine wanting to be able to march in protest but physically not being capable of doing so. None of us deserved this. But, they especially did not deserve this. For fuck's sake, among the handful of things you're going to want when you breathe your last breath on this earth is to know that you died free. The next time we get a chance to vote (if there is a next time), I don't want to hear a single young person express apathy about their vote or an inclination to somehow remain "uncommitted." Someday, the shoe's going to be on the other foot and you'll be the one living out your last days. And, when that time comes, you're not going to want anyone younger than you treating Democracy like some fucking luxury that can be passed on when it's deemed "inconvenient." Because nothing's more "inconvenient" than not getting another chance.

My mom worked on political campaigns for decades (and had us working on them too). Both my parents dedicated a lot of their time to causes. My mom was a Parks Commissioner, she was in a group for international peace, she ran the Democratic booth at county fairs, and we all joined in. She actually got her politics from my dad. They both ran for office to have a Democratic candidate on the ticket, even though it was going to be a losing effort.

We supported unions, picketed, boycotted companies, you name it. She was a delegate at the DNC convention in 2004. Yet in their lifetime (and mine), they have had to endure some of the worst presidents our country has ever had - Nixon, Reagan, both Bushes, and now Trump (who was in office when my dad died).

It's horrible, every time we seem to take two steps forward, we take five back. Things have progressed socially but we are all tired of the forces arrayed against us. She's almost 90 and this fool could be the last president in her lifetime. It's so unfair.

I agree about the ageism. It's discouraging.

Add to that the fact that she (along with my Mom) could instead have seen the first woman elected President and yes, it is truly unfair what has happened.

I'm not in the best health and worry about dying while Trump is still in office. I worry for my children and grandchildren.

So maybe I will outlive him or his presidency if he decides to pull a Putin and be dictator for life.

a few hours ago when I was going through old mementos. I said out loud that my grandparents would not recognize this country if they came back for a visit from the dead. However, I also thought that I wish I could be gone and be where ever they are since living here SUCKS!!!!! And it is only going to get much, much worse. I'm jealous of my dead grandparents and dad and dogs. Since my health care is not within my budget I probably will join them sooner than later and that is fine with me. The sooner the better. I do NOT want to suffer through one more minute of a country run by sadistic, greedy psychopaths.

My best girlfriend of 30+ years suffers from serious health issues too. It is unconscionable that people are being forced to suffer and worry about their healthcare or food or other basic needs in this, the wealthiest country in the history of the world. But we've got plenty for war and bribery and grifting and sponsoring terrorist attacks on our citizens. Sending you ineffectual but heartfelt hugs.

this is why, if my beautiful mama had to go at age 81, I am SO relieved that she died during Biden's presidency. She had lived through ten presidencies. She fought SO hard to get him elected, marching with her walker and personally writing THOUSANDS of postcards to voters for him and the downballot races. One of the last things I said to her as she was slipping away was to remind her that her postcarding likely helped flip the two Georgia Senate races and give us a Democratic majority.

At least she got to leave this life (just six months after the 2020 election) under the illusion that her lifetime of dedication to making the world a better place had paid off and she was leaving us in capable hands. I do wish she hadn't had to see January 6th before she went.

Of course, I was left here to grapple with the nightmarish fact that, due to this fascist monster's incompetence, her body had to spend a MONTH in a freezer because morgues were so backed up. Worse yet, my life partner of twenty years, who had himself lived through nine presidents and emigrated to America from England because he loved our country (but was terrified we were slipping into fascism in his final years), wasn't so lucky. He died of COVID in June of 2020.

before Covid but also 3 years into tRump's first term. I feel badly that he had to live through 3 years of MAGA crap. I'm also glad he didn't have to suffer through many more years of living in this hell hole country.
