I think it is probably a bad idea to put clearly unhinged, angry psychopaths in federal law enforcement positions.

(7,209 posts)The First Amendment Auditor community is largely right wing and is followed widely by right wingers on socials. They're the guys who stand around masked with cameras filiming people going into and out of post offices, Trader Joes, and especially cannabis dispensaries (to be fair, they also do churches) trying to provoke people into claiming they're breaking the law, when of course you are free to record whatever on or from a public sidewalk. If you read the comments in the 1A auditor reels and posts, about 80% of it is laughing at "liberals" for complaining.
But this guy is doing the same thing, and using 1A auditor rhetoric: "I'm not breaking any law and you know it." And just standing there while the LE dipshit blows a gasket. It's also why the ICE assholes are (mis)citing the federal statute - they know that the 1A auditor operation is one in which the technical statutes are cited, so they're trying to make a counter-citation in advance. The guy filming is right to shoot it down. There's a part of this that comes from the Free Palestine protests: Free Palestine protestors, especially in NYC and California, took to using 1A Auditor methods on people dining outdoors, to great effect and with some hilarious footage.

(40,683 posts)The guy recording was great! "That's a lot of numbers you just remembered." He knew his rights & didn't back down.
You have the right to observe & record as long as you're not interfering. I bought a small recording device that I can clip to my clothes or purse so I don't risk dropping my phone. It records audio too, although some states have laws about recording audio without the person's consent.

(13,207 posts)I think with some good editing they could blast their faces all over social media. Let more and more of them walk up to the camera.

(137 posts)You know they're going to kill more people. They can't control themselves. I've never seen a highway patrol or local police officer talk like this or show such a lack of control. This is why I never go to protests in person. I'm afraid of getting my head bashed in or shot by Trump's crazies.

(1,878 posts)Crazy culture. Bad results. I guess that is the parallel.
Beyond everything else, these guys come off as frightened. Which, in the long run, means that we are winning. In the short run, they will continue to get more dangerous.

(15,366 posts)The fact that he didn't means that no law was being broken. Ice man was trying to intimidate and provoke.
Why was he angry? Probably because citizen observers recording their actions provides visual evidence of their violent and illegal behavior.
