It may be a cold war, economic war, or worse, but Trump has made it clear, he will take Greenland, and he is surrounded by yes-men, psychopaths, or those on the side of Putin who are not going to stop him.

(130,334 posts)and refuse to service or refuel US aircraft carriers there. Alternatively we could allow the whole US armada into the Harbour, all the way to Bedford Basin (that can hold a whole armada or five) and then put the anti U-boat nets up across the narrow opening of the Harbour (The Narrows) keeping the US Navy locked away.

Bedford Basin is a large enclosed area for ships to anchor that forms the north-western end of Halifax Harbour in Nova Scotia on Canada's Atlantic coast. The basin had international significance during both the First and Second World Wars when the German navy used submarines as an offensive weapon against Allied shipping. Canada's prominent role in the First World War led to Halifax being chosen as the primary logistic port for resupplying Western Europe. The protected waters of the Bedford Basin allowed the Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy to assemble convoys of hundreds of merchant ships in relative security while torpedo nets kept German submarines at bay.

(the Atlantic Ocean is to the right off the map)
in Bedford Basin, then out through the Narrows to the Ocean. Almost certainly. The ships came in over time, the U-boat nets at the opening of the harbour would be opened enough to let them in. Then past the city of Halifax and into the Bedford Basin. When they had a huge number of ships, they would steam out of Bedford Basin, through the Narrows, then full speed into the Atlantic guarded by anti submarine boats and destroyers all the way to Europe. It was still dangerous and many ships were sunk.

(13,720 posts)Denmark too. I would think that Greenland should be covered by NATO, so if we invade it, we might be forced to defend it too.
Seriously though, the people of the country, mostly indigenous, should have a say in their future. Maybe they would rather be a US territory. Maybe they can get something material out of it. I sincerely doubt Trump is just going to invade.
