Rand Paul stopped by TSA after body scan anomaly

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was blocked from boarding a flight Monday by the Transportation Security Administration in Nashville, Tenn., after refusing a full body pat-down, POLITICO has confirmed.

“I spoke with him five minutes ago and he was being detained indefinitely,” Paul spokesperson Moira Bagley said. “The image scan went off; he refused patdown.”

Paul’s father, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), tweeted out news of the incident, saying that there had been an “anomaly” with a body scanner.

“My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming,” wrote the authenticated Twitter account of presidential candidate Ron Paul.

the normal procedures by an article under a Constitutional amendment. They weren't supposed to search him if he had his Congressional ID with him. Congresscritters have the equivalent of diplomatic immunity from search. That's what I learned from listening to Thom Hartmann today.

That's what some folks are on about, but he was not arrested.

He'd have had to have been pretty darn close to the end of boarding time in order for an argument over a resolution pat down to make him miss a flight.

Figure - minimum boarding time for small planes is .5 hour, and baggage check closes around 1 hour prior to flight time.

If he was running late, and knew he was going to miss his appearance at that rally, then he was going to need a good excuse.

How long did this all take?

he didn't deserve any special privileges just because he is a senator, so he went through the nudoscope.

We don't have all of the details yet, except that he and Pops are rabidly against the scanners and patdowns.

I know you don't like the assholes! Neither do I!

But you do know that if you think they are right on any issue, it could be misconstrued that you are a Paul supporter, here on DU.

That's all I'm saying!
