.... Yang and (Matt) Rogers both retracted their remarks in separate Instagram posts on Saturday. Their retractions follow some social media users accusing Yang of anti-Blackness for telling Dems to not donate to Crockett.
Should not have cursorily weighed in on this, Yang posted. Understanding the platform and will use it more responsibly. ....
Rogers insisted he was (sic) a very progressive person who cares deeply about winning these elections, but my phrasing was not right. I will be more thoughtful! I really do promise.
He added, I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise. I just want us to win and I will be better at finding ways to help. ....

(10,861 posts)They just said they'd reword it better next time.
People have been going after Yang's Asianess and making homophobic remarks at both of them.
All for saying a common sense remark - that Crockett isn't likely to win statewide in Texas.
The regularly-scheduled eating of one's own in the name of dumb. The racism and homophobia from people who claim a progressive mantle is just the usual usual.
I applaud them for not subjugating themselves to the bored Internet social media mob.

(76,988 posts)They did, indeed, frame it as a rewording - YANG following ROGERS' lead again (I had the impression before this that YANG was the better known one), but ROGERS *did* now say his words "suggested otherwise" than "respect and admiration" for CROCKETT.
There were two comments in the article about Gay and Asian attacks, one from YANG (about SNL) and one from a Commenter. The other four regarding racism were allegations of "Anti-Blackness" on the part of YANG/ROGERS.
The thrust of their comments about CROCKETT - and NEWSOM, by the way - was just a blank-out to not support her, not a punditry analysis in "common sense" terms.
*** But on a Meta level, it's commonly frequent for your and my fellow members to vent about their posting peeves and preferences, so I'll indulge myself here about your post, which I'm sure I'll regret: When I see vague assertions that seem to be referring to somebody, I'm wondering, Who is/are the target - me/us? And I prefer to target MAGAts and other of our enemies than anybody on our side. So, in the following phrases, who are the targets - me/OP, the author of the article, DU at large, Dems out there at large?
* "eating of one's own"
* "in the name of dumb"
* "who claim a progressive mantle"
* "the usual usual"
* "the bored Internet social media mob"

(10,861 posts)"Oh no, they're not supporting who I like. So let's dogpile them on social media as viciously as possible!"
That mess. And it has been U-G-L-Y.
The ostensible supporters have been dropping the f-word at them, going after Yang for being Asian, and leaving homophobic remarks left, right, and center. And they have been doing so under the guise that their politics somehow make them Morally Unassailable. You can be as sexist, racist, and homophobic as you want, as long as you're supporting the Correct Cause.
I do not forget when people come for my fellow LGBTers like that. Ever.
And it's this kind of thing that promotes division, that weakens us, and that plays games of social media virtue signalling at the expense of, you know, actually winning elections.
They said they thought the Crockett campaign was a waste of money. So have people on DU. So have a hell of a lot of Dem analysts. It is not even a slightly controversial take. But to respond to that by calling two progressive gay men racists and fling racism and homophobia around so casually and hatefully?
Yeah, getting them to clarify their words wasn't the win the social media crazies wanted. It was a racist, homophobic mob thinking they could get them to kneel.
Good for them that they didn't.

(76,988 posts)about "Oh, no, they're not supporting who I like" and "division, that weakens us" - the latter is who I target with my wounded disappointment when anybody I consider "ours" says something that helps the enemy more than our side.
Hookay, may this now sink like a rock - I hope.
