They argue that current events are exactly why 2A is needed.
I have mixed feelings about it- risk of a hothead setting off a massecre. But wouldn't 2A folks be in favor of it?

(4,869 posts)The Panthers are a welcome sight in my view. Theyre continuing the tradition of Fred Hampton who was a hero, which is why the government murdered him. He was a danger to this whole bullshit system we live under and they couldnt have that.

Because the Black Panthers were out on the streets expressing their 2nd Amendment Rights by open carrying automatic weapons.
So those got banned.

I will say that it is notable that after the passage of the 'fugitive slave law' in 1850,
within a couple years afterwards, there is little mention of much activity by 'slave-catchers'
traveling to the north to recapture slaves....
but there IS some mention of African-American communities having ARMED themselves
to protect themselves against such kidnappers....
And also there was my favorite quote from Frederick Douglass,
after he publicly gave up pacifism against black slavery---
At the Free Soil Convention in 1852, he said to a raucous crowd:
The only way to make the Fugitive Slave Law a dead letter is to make half a dozen or more dead kidnappers.
I see a very obvious moral parallel between the 1850's 'slave-catchers'
and the Trump government ICE agents of today....
and 'personal self defense' applies to both instances.
