Young folks may not remember these lowlife taking over Iran in 1979. They took American hostages, and they destroyed Jimmy Carter's Presidency. To my mind, they still haven't paid the fiddler.

But a religious government was doomed to make matters worse for that beleaguered populace.

(13,725 posts)...hyper-patriarchal, homophobic, theocratic, torturing tyrants don't get to make the USA "atone" for anything in my book. It's just an easy call for those concerned with the good of humanity to choose the USA over the Islamic Republic bunch. Easy. (I trust you find it easy too. Not saying you don't.)
I agree the Iranian people don't deserve the Islamic Republic.

To Jimmy Carter it must have seemed like self-determination on their part.
