So I had a dental appointment cancellation yesterday

because in the somewhat impoverished area in which i practice on Wednesdays, which possesses a heavily Hispanic population, we received a phone call from a child’s mom telling us that ICE was present around the school and she did not send her child to school nor does she wish to leave the house.

THIS…is “who we are” now. And I don’t want to hear the phrase “This isn’t who we are” ever again. This is what we are and are increasingly becoming very very quickly.

Oh and one more thing: I was speaking with a good friend who has excellent politics as we would say here, and it was right after the Minneapolis shooting of Ms. Good. I exclaimed to him, “DID YOU FUCKING SEE THAT HORROR?” To which he replied, “No, I can’t watch stuff like that.” And then he added, “But she DID try to hit him with her car.” Not a question, a statement.

To which I replied, “No she did NOT. And, if you had watched it, you’d know that they’re lying through their teeth AS ALWAYS.” His follow-up: “Oh, ok.”

I rest my case. We have arrived when even the good guys are in the can.

Like what your mother told you on November 22, 1963, my dad, who was a WWII veteran and a staunch FDR Democrat said a similar thing on that day. He was very active in the local VFW post and he said that there were guys celebrating JFK's assassination and he was so disgusted that he walked out of the place.

just wait until "THEY" get ahold of this and other websites participants names, addresses, etc.......and publish them to their MAGAot followers........

I have a Dem friend, who, in the 2020 election, got a hold of a Trump Yard sign and stashed it in his garage, for future use, if needed......Even I thought that a little bit extreme paranoia at the time, maybe not so much any more.......

Maybe we should all make a small donation to the Republican Party, get on the Republican mailing lists, change our voter registration to Republican, etc.......... just to be safe...LOL Boy would THAT screw them up.......LOL

(As a side note: Our neighborhood was overflowing with Trump Lawn signs in the 2016 Election, not quite so many in the 2020 election, and I only saw ONE Trump sign in our neighborhood before the 2024 election.......The chicken shit Republican's in our neighborhood were scared to let anyone know they were voting for Trump again)

Is she here legally?
Then why worry?

Not caring that it doesn't matter if they are here legally, ICE is taking anyone that has darker skin regardless of citizenship.

as they carry out their vile operations. If this isn’t who we are as a nation, then who are WE?
The world sees the orange cartoon character is the elected leader of our nation, and they’re beginning to have a real problem with us. We have an internal problem here, and if we don’t manage it ourselves, the world will respond against us all. What else can they do?

I know who I am, and so does the majority of our country. If we are able to gain the majority again in Congress, this will be a defining moment of who we are as a party. We cannot repeat the mistakes we made the last time we held congress:
1. Soft on accountability
2. Delude ourselves that since we have the majority, mission accomplished.
3. Lack of unified goals
4. Lack of assertive focus

(haven't been in one since October, and before that in May, but after a dental cleaning appointment, there's a place for lunch almost next door, and I look forward to that)

Anyway, it's a white area and 90% white bar/restaurant. Bartender and client both white. I was expecting the worst, since, well, white bar culture.

The lengthy conversation was all anti-ICE and anti-Trump.

So, ya never know

By the way, neither were drinking - the client was there just to pick up a take-out food order, and the bartendress was on duty.

Just in case - from the vantage point of the killer's video, Good is very clearly turning the steering wheel to the right (as well, there are other videos / pics showing the front left tire angled to the right)

It's a difficult question to ask, and even more difficult to answer. I'm an old white woman, and I'm not afraid. But, for me, being brave is a bit easier. After all, they're not coming after me, at least not yet. And, I've lived a full life. I worry for others, who are more vulnerable.

I've decided the least I can do is stand up for the innocent people being targeted. That's why I'm on sites like Bluesky as myself. I'd be very easy to find, if they wanted to round-up this old white girl and ship her off some place for speaking her mind about what damn Fascist Pigs they are.

Stay safe out there. I hope we can beat these fascist back with our vote before they take that away, too.

Why? Because they are ruled by the greed of the few at the expense of the many.

What is the old saying? Nature is red in tooth and claw.

We sit smugly in our easy chairs and say that, but where is our moral compass? Because our culture that supports billionaires and deifies them is ALSO quite red in tooth and claw.

And if a certain madman attacks Greenland, our subsequent economic suffering and deprivation will know few bounds. Just a reminder:

- The top 1%, including the billionaires and Wall Street greed-lizards OWN or CONTROL 43% of the world's wealth.
- 3.5 billion people on this planet live in poverty.
- Of these, 900 million people live in grinding, unrelenting, extreme poverty.
- And 17 people PER MINUTE die from hunger or related causes.

And we allow this. We allow ketamine fueled dirtbags like Elon Musk and ideologues like Russell Vought, Steve Bannon and Steven Miller to call the shots?

When will we stand up and break free from the old Wall Street SQUEEZE? Because that is what this is. Trump is only a symptom of a much deeper malady - the absence of a moral compass in the face of profound materialism.

And what is this moral compass? This North Star we should be following?

Nope, not some religious dogma. Just this:

If you do not want someone to put their iron boot on your neck and grind you into the dirt, then do not do it to someone else.

That's it. The old so-called Golden Rule. Just that. We need to relearn empathy and compassion.

sometimes you have to suck it up to be more informed rather than believing right wing bullshit and then saying stupid, uninformed things like how she tried to hit him with her car.

Ft Benning's had the School of the Americas where they trained these types of tactics. We trained the Sha's brutes for Iran leading to the current situation, Argentina, Chile and many others who do it slightly less and maintain a veneer of civil society. So this is sort of a come back where the violence meted out in the interest of Multinational Corporations is now showing up in force here. I think the wealthy are getting scared at the rumblings of social reform among our younger generations and they really think this will protect them. But this exposes how evil our money hoarders truly are. And as an economist I am angry about how their constantly asking for a greater share and then due to their slower spending they have to come back for more. Our military budget represents a transfer from many to a few. Where if we made sure everyone had more to spend our total national income would multiply. Even Adam Smith wanted strict limits on banks, corporations and a steeply progressive income tax regime.
