Renee Good's family hire George Floyd lawyers to investigate her killing by ICE agent

'The family of the woman shot dead by an ICE agent last week has hired the law firm that represented George Floyd’s loved ones after his killing by police in the same city in May 2020.

'Chicago-based firm Romanucci & Blandin has said it is investigating Good’s tragic death on behalf of her family.

If nobody is going to prosecute the monster JD Ross, what does hiring lawyers to investigate actually do?

I'm not saying it's nothing, I'm just unclear about what the goal is/what might be accomplished? Is there like a life insurance policy whose payout could be challenged or something along those lines that could be questioned in a case like this?

Or is this just what you do when you're considering suing someone civilly? I suppose that could be some comfort for the family, but not sure how much money could be pried from some grunt agent like Ross personally. Suit against the government, maybe? Is there a possibility of that?
