Last night a number of talking heads predicted that Tr**p was going to invoke Martial Law.
Tr**p hearing this said to himself - "If that's what their saying I'm gonna do - then I might as well do it. They're giving me permission."
So watch for it - cause it's coming soon from him.
That's how he gets most of his insane ideas. From the talking heads that predict his behavior.
He figures if he doesn't go along with their predictions - they'll think less of him. They want me to do it. So he does.
So thank you talking heads. Your the people that gave us our worst president ever.

(22,181 posts)Dont buy into the mythology, and always remember this one absolute truth:
Trump is not omnipotent, and the states and the people are not powerless
Reality check: no midterms = no congress = no budget, no increase in the debt ceiling, American dollar becomes worthless, and the economy collapses.
Not to mention numerous states without governors, a third of the senate gone, etc.
Its always important to think through dystopian fantasies to their logical consequences before predicting them with such certainty.

(22,181 posts)Cancelling midterms means 2027 starts with no House of Representatives, zero.
A third of the senate gone
Many states without governors or legislatures
No functioning Congress = no budget, no lifting the debt ceiling, total government shutdown, collapse of the economy.
And that is without answering the critical question: just how would Trump cancel 50 elections in 50 states?

(65,199 posts)everything the orange asshole has done illegally, by passing congress and the supremes left and right.
do you honestly believe he's going to now suddenly pay attention to procedure? or rules?
he has his very own private army now in ice with a budget of 28 billion dollars.
he doesn't have to do it in all 50 states, just enough to cast doubt and create chaos.
it's not the method, but the end result he cares about.
we all here in the United States (such it is) have to shed any notion of things being normal this coming (hopefully) election are gone.
it's very simple math. he loses the house and or the senate, he's impeached and maybe even prison. (people this nation will have run out of fucks by then and will demand prison time)
do you honestly believe he wants to live his very biggest fear? being held accountable and go to jail?
these coming midterms are going to be fucked up, really fucked up. and I still maintain, something around September will happen, at the hand of miller, to make that happen to either cancel them or make them a complete mess.
Fiendish Thingy
(22,181 posts)I agree their will be plenty of ratfuckery and shenanigans, but cancelling elections involves much more than just deploying ICE to polling places (which would be blocked by a court injunction, that believe it or not, Trump would obey)
Even with his private gestapo, Trump doesnt have the resources to prevent the Blue Tsunami coming in November.
Reminder: elections were held during every war, including the civil war and after 9/11.
You still havent considered either the pushback from the courts, the states and the people, nor the consequences of having no congress in 2027.

(1,817 posts)no time to shrivel up and/or give up. He's weaker than EVER and so is MAGA. That's not my opinion, just go out and talk to people. He's only popular with the lunatic fringe. He can't and won't "stop the midterms". Absolutely not gonna happen folks but if it makes you feel better to spew rhetoric with no basis in fact, have at it. Won't change the fact he and his minions are circling the drain and dying a slow death.

(65,199 posts)he did it because he thought he could. That's the over arching narrative
the gop congress sat on their hands then gave him permission after the fact.
he cares nothing for the states or states rights. He thinks he's the state (hat tip to Louis the 15th). and it doesn't matter if he stops all the state elections, he has to just prevent enough of them.
he has a private army now in ice.
you think he's going to waste them? the killing and beating protesters are just the warm up.
as I said to my wife when she asked me, "how much worse can it get?" I responded, "oh so very much worse. this is just the warm up".

(22,181 posts)Walk us through how you imagine it would unfold, and be sure to include considerations for pushback from the courts (which he has obeyed most of the time), the states, and the people.

he has to create enough chaos to declare a state of emergency.
but that's if we even make it to the midterms.
I think he and his private 28 billion dollar private ICE army will do something sometime in sept or oct.
don't get me wrong, I truly hope with every single fiber of my being that I am completely wrong and will admit to it gladly.
but we are dealing with an arrogant psychopath.

(22,181 posts)If he is the omnipotent dictator who seem to think he is, then why is Kilmer Garcia free on US soil, and why werent troops deployed to Chicago or Portland?
If he doesnt care about courts or laws, then why does he obey the courts most of the time?

(5,178 posts)Unless the states themselves go along with an order from Trump to not hold them. I could see Texas doing this but it would be stupid.
What Trump could do is physically prevent senators and representatives from entering the U.S. Capitol to do business. This would be illegal but he controls enough force to do it or he burns down the Capitol and blames it on an undocumented immigrant

(2,692 posts)First, pick the "Trumpiest" State you can think of.
Now, ask yourself, is that State going to - somehow - agree to not hold elections and therefore lose its US Senate and House seats, have numerous vacancies in its State Senate and House, possibly have no Governor, have no Constitutional officers in every county in the State..... of course not.
There is no mechanism for the Executive Branch to stop the 50 States from holding elections, and there is not one State which could or would agree(they are bound by their own State Constitutions).

(21,301 posts)1)Is there any way TSF (with help from his RETHUG congress people) tie up the DATES of counting electoral votes?) 2) Could RED states some how seek recounts that could postpone count totals? 3) Could RED states do things after election or just before elections that could tie up courts? 4) Can Supreme court interfere? Got anymore out there? Feel free to ask them here.
Fiendish Thingy
(22,181 posts)1) nope
2) state recounts are typically triggered by state law when a margin is razor thin, like 0.5% or less. Otherwise, candidates have to foot the bill.
3) possibly, but only in their own states
4) possibly, but only on a race by race basis if someone who has standing files suit and their lawyer is willing to risk disbarment- remember both lower courts and SCOTUS refused to hear numerous 2020 election denial cases due to either lack of standing or lack of evidence. The few that were heard were dismissed and the lawyers faced legal and professional consequences.
bluestarone
(21,301 posts)Ok so on num 1 could depend on the answers to the other questions? For instance on num. 2. IF red states KNOW they pay for recounts, and are 100% willing to have them, could that outcome go to Supreme court for final ruling? On Num. 3 If red states intentionally unlawful could THAT tie up final electoral voting time? Same with num. 4 here. I KNOW they are willing to do ILLEGAL things intentionally. Can ANYTHING, and I mean anything change that date and time of Electoral votes casting?
Fiendish Thingy
(22,181 posts)Your reply wasnt quite clear to me but Ill try to answer:
The answer to #1 is unequivocally no, under any circumstances
Each state has laws regarding recounts, how a state funded recounts are triggered, and under what conditions a candidate may seek, at their own cost, a recount. A candidate could challenge any recount in court, but unless it is closer than a couple of dozen votes, unlikely to change the outcome.
3&4- a single state, or even a group of states could not force other states to change the date of their elections, and probably couldnt change the date of their own, since it is black letter law. Some governors/SOSs have ordered polls to remain open past normal closing time when they have run out of ballots, had bomb threats, etc. - thats about the only change to the hours of the election I can think of.
Hope this is helpful.

(26,427 posts)With knowing that that pissed him off - any subsequent protest or opportunity to have signs displayed with that moniker printed on them - would just tick him off to no end.
Any protest marches should also utilized that language in chants and public address system shouts - calling him a 'pedo protector'.
We got to continually get under his skin - because as a bully - he can't take it.
Maybe he'll even stop making public appearances.
