OMFG...we are idiots!

Horrendous movie. The warning obviously didn't do us any good, though... Hindsight failed us.

others. This was her psychopathic way of getting what she wanted. This movie not only reminds me of tRump, but of his ruthless mentor Roy Cohn. According to an older woman who rented her summer place to him, Roy Cohn enjoyed his stay so much that he wanted the property. She became truly frightened of him and his overtures to acquire her property.

and the denial was especially tenacious in the 1950s, when people thought all the self help pseudoscience parenting books would guide them toward bringing up perfect children in a regimented society.

Boy, were they wrong!

We now know that psychopathy and sociopathy manifest themselves in very young children, usually in cruelty to animals, setting fires, and other indicators of a lack of empathy or appreciation for consequences. Signs of personality disorders are also present, but usually with fewer physical manifestations. The problem is breaking through the wall of denial that Mom and Dad put up, even when the problem has been recognized by multiple teachers, school counselors, and even the family pastor.

"Oh, it's just a stage s/he is going through, I did the same things at that age."

"The other kids are just as bad sometimes"

"We'll get to church more often, enroll the kid in religious classes. God will straighten things out."

"There is nothing the matter with my child, just a hot temper sometimes."

""He refuses to do anything I tell him and he's gotten too big to spank. Military school will teach him some disciplin." (woked really well on little Fatso, didn't it?)

hat she kind of had to make do with TV and Broadway for a few years thereafter, cute child star roles were pretty much out after her truly stunning performance as a child psychopath.

I'm glad to see she's still with us at the age of 80 and still acting.

The thing is that there are some truly rotten people in this world and usually the warning signs were there from early childhood. The problem is that most children are complex and a lot of children exhibit some of those same warning signs but go on to become reasonable adults. We don't yet have a real test for true evil, nor do we have any medications that will discourage assholes from being assholes.

as the original "Bad Seed" had a deep-down obsessive "motive" (desire for a coveted award), where "The Good Son" was more along the "evil psychopath" genre - like Steven King stuff (like "Carrie" or "Firestarter" but without the "supernatural" overlay).

But, it was a fun film.

Not to mention that I knew a few Kevin's growing up in my tiny town. The only reason they were not actual murderous psychopaths is because everyone knew them and knew to stay away from them. Except a few who chose to become friends with them.

There was a whole genre of "child" psychopaths or mediums of them, notably those with either a "religious" overlay ( "The Exorcist", "The Omen" ), those with some sort of "supernatural" power (Steven King stuff like "Carrie", "Firestarter", "The Shining" ) and those who were associated with otherworldly stuff, like "Poltergeist" (which eventually seemed to herald the end of that after a sequel) -

And then that genre apparently got rebooted again the the '90s.

me of Rhoda...how she killed her schoolmate because he "stole" the award she "won". Didn't post it because I figured nobody had probably seen The Bad Seed. In fact, Rhoda was likely a serial killer, having previously "tripped" an elderly lady she didn't like.

Thank you.

Same actress. In the play, she got away with everything. It was only when it got to the movies that the organization which oversaw such things insisted that she be punished.
