Stephen Miller Mocked For Begging William Shatner To Save 'Star Trek' From Wokeness

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/stephen-miller-william-shatner-wokeness_n_696a67c8e4b018dc941d87c9

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller took a brief moment away from his goal of deporting immigrants in order to offer a suggestion on how to improve “Star Trek.”

And, yes, he was mocked.

The franchise’s latest show, “Starfleet Academy,” debuted this week on Paramount Plus and, true to the original vision, shows characters from different backgrounds working together for a greater cause.

Yes, Star Trek is "woke" and we fucking LIKE it that way!

In Vulcan philosophy, there's a concept called IDIC. Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Star Trek CELEBRATES diversity and always has.

The woman, who is cast as the chancellor , a starfleet captain was the wrong pick I think. I dint know if that’s her style of acting, but she feels scattered and not convincing as a command officer. I was looking forward to this series and I’m so disappointed. Perhaps the director “over-directed” her but I can’t watch it. It’s too bad, because she is an older woman in her 50’s and I thought that was interesting. The other cast members seem ok.

The storyline is not to my liking. I may try to watch it again.

And Star Trek has always been WOKE!!!

because the writing is so bad. I feel like in the newer Star Treks they are trying to be more hip and relevant to the modern age and all it does is feel superficial. And communication between characters seems like shallow filler until the next and more ridiculous space battle with their sleek and shiny ships.

It is 2 dimensional. I don’t care about the people or their problems. Can you imagine how bad the Lord of the Rings trilogy would have been if written that way?

And I was enthralled with TOS right from the beginning. I’m WOKE and proud of it.

I watched it last night, and knew I recognized the voice... but couldn't put a name to it. Drove me crazy for awhile (LOL).

One of the reasons Star Trek has always been popular is because it is inclusive. The hardest thing Roddenberry had to do was to keep Nichelle Nichols on board. Censors didn't really want a woman... and especially a black woman... for the role. He went to bat for her, and the "kiss" between her and Shatner was a real moment of TV, IMO. Roddenberry and Serling were two of the best writers for inclusiveness and equality, IMO. They took somewhat different paths in genre, but still... both wrote thought provoking screenplays.

I liked the first episode, and am looking forward to the rest of the show. I still wish they'd do one with Crusher's son, picking up where they left off in Picard. It seemed like such a perfect setup for a new series. (shrug) But I LOVED the Jem'hadar/Klingon "Number One"... she was perfect for that role! I think like any new series, it may take a few episodes for it to find it's standing, but I have hopes for it being an enjoyable (if not formulaic) series.

I say the following without apologies... in these insane times in the United States, Star Trek is like settling in with an old friend for a few hours. It's comforting; its uplifting in its hopefulness. And I think we all need a hit of that from time to time.

I felt she did an okay job. My issue with the show after its first two eps is the teen romance nonsense. It was wholly unnecessary in Star Trek to this point (save the odd Wesley-Crusher-likes-a-girl episode from TNG) and it isn't needed now. If it turns into Star Trek: 90201 as so many feared, I won't stick around long.

She's playing a being who's over 400 years old and half-Lanthanite, a species given to eccentric behavior. Maybe that will explain what you saw? If you watched Strange New Worlds, you might remember Commander Pelia played by Carol Kane. She was a Lanthanite and was an oddball, too.

As for the youthful romances, I think that fits, too. It's all about the first generation of Starfleet Academy recruits in over 100 years (because of the Burn, which was part of Discovery), and romances are a big part of being young adults.

The show was promoted as a YA (Young Adult) show, so they want to attract young people. I knew that going in, and ya know what? I am all for that! Let them be attracted to the romances! Teenage girls will get their boyfriends to watch with them, and there they are soaking in the "wokeness" of the Star Trek universe!

And c'mon, Kirk sure had his share of romances. We all grew up with Star Trek as a part of our culture. I am all for attracting today's youth to become part of that same culture. Wake them up, too!

I think the show had a strong first 2 episodes. By the end of the first episode, the main characters were well-defined, and by the end of the second, those characters were further developed and some new ones had been added and defined. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised!

I actually enjoy YA shows, so I've watched quite a few for comparison. I find them lighthearted, optimistic, and just fun. I watch plenty of high-end dramas, too, but these are what I reach for late at night when I can't sleep. That said, this was definitely a high-end YA show. It's Star Trek! There's plenty of shows in the Star Trek universe to appeal to a wide range of viewers. I watch and support them all.

I hope this one DOES attract a YA audience. The right is already scrambling to bring it down for being "too woke." I will keep watching it to help it succeed, so it has a chance to influence younger generations. AND because I think it's a damn good show, and I enjoyed it. Sometimes, I think we also need to open our minds and embrace new things.

one that might draw in younger viewers whose minds might need to be exposed to the "woke" values of the same universe we cherished in our youth. It had nothing to do with YOU embracing what you termed "YA slop" (which it is not). So sorry you chose to be offended by my desire to see young minds inspired by the same values we once were (assuming we are of the same generation). I am a teacher, so perhaps we see things differently. Impressing these values on young people by any means is something I will welcome, and yes, embrace. Goodnight to you.

― Gene Roddenberry

“Star Trek was an attempt to say that humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins not just to tolerate, but take a special delight in differences in ideas and differences in life forms. […] If we cannot learn to actually enjoy those small differences, to take a positive delight in those small differences between our own kind, here on this planet, then we do not deserve to go out into space and meet the diversity that is almost certainly out there.”

Now he's off the deep end. Full Trumper. I've had "discussions" with him about how he reconciles his faith with Trump's actions. He ignores anything that challenges these bizarre contradictions. He has too much invested (mentally, emotionally, and even financially) in the MAGA life to admit an error.

I cut off most contact with him after Trump won in 2016. I last talked to him 3 years ago. I hold out hope I can reconnect with him in the future but I'm not overconfident about it.

My sister-in-law, on the other hand has gone full on bat-shit crazy. I honestly don't know what hapened to her other, like my friend, being brainwashed by talk radio. (And to be clear, it was talk radio that got to both of them long before Fox. They just latched onto Fox after they were already hooked. Too many people here discount the influence of talk radio. In reality, it has been far more insidious than Fox News.) My brother, who used to be very liberal has turned into a Republican too, but I've never gotten the impression he's anywhere near as far gone as his wife. I honestly don't know where he stands on Trump at this point. I'm scared to ask him because I don't want to know if he's gone full MAGA - it would break my heart. I refuse to visit them because I don't want to face her.

I just never envisioned any of them were as weak of mind as they've turned out to be so as to be influenced so much by Right Wing propaganda. They didn't used to be that way. Their tranformations have proven to me that Brainwashing is very much a real thing and the main instrument by which the right gets people to support them and vote 100% against their personal interests.

In 1966 NBC was bothered by Spock (pointed ears! What is that all about?). An Asian and a black woman on the bridge. Some southern stations wouldn't show TV shows which had black people on them. When was the last time Stephen Miller even watched television in the last 60 years? Star Trek Strange New Worlds has included gay characters. Even Donald Trump can't do anything about that.

Shatner plainly said that the director (Meyer) tricked him into saying it, promising that it would not be in the final cut.

Shatner did not want to say it, according to Shatner.

The Klingon Kruge killed Kirk's (wimpy) son in ST:III. If memory serves (a Spock phrase), the Klingon vessel in ST:V is named "The Kruge." The Klingons were proud of him.

So far, it's awful. If Star Trek Academy does not rapidly improve, there will be no need to save ST from wokeness. The ratings will do it in.
