Remember when I mentioned the raid on the Marion County Record

last week? The documentary of that raid is titled "Seized" and it has been chosen by the Sundance Film Festival as one of the documentaries to be shown at the festival this year. Each year 10 documentaries from the US are chosen in that category to be shown.

The film is 90 minutes in length and will have it's premier at the festival at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday January 25th at the festival headquarters in Park City, Utah. It will run through January 31st in some additional theaters in Utah. There will be showings to industry and press personnel from January 28th to February 1st. It has been shown to test audiences in New York and Hollywood and the Marion County Record article about the film notes that the people responsible for the film are negotiating with industry groups and streaming services for distribution rights. The paper also notes it has no editorial control or financial stake in the film.

The Marion County Record is a consistent winner of awards by the Kansas Press Association for editorial page, columns and stories. After the raid they also received the Don Bolles medal from the group Investigative Reporters and Editors. People might remember the name and life of Don Bolles.

For those who don't know about the raid you can read about it here at the link.

And now they've postponed the trial, citing the screenings of "seized."

The jury trial for former Marion County Police Chief Gideon Cody has been postponed from February to sometime this summer, a judge decided Tuesday. The attorneys argue the film, called “Seized,” could negatively influence jurors in Marion County, where the jury pool is already limited.

Sounds like they'll be looking for another venue.
