They would understand that the NATO alliance has prevented wars within Europe for eighty years. All the "baby-boomers" that were born after WWII have lived in virtual peace compared to the generations before them. They have been allowed to live in freedom and to make the best of their lives. It was not always the norm.
However, we are watching those conditions change before our eyes. Europe is arming itself again. And when they are armed, they usually go to war. Everyone with a sixth-grade education knows about Germany and their history. They know about the tens of millions of people that died in WWII. They were told about the race of people that was nearly obliterated, as millions of their people were murdered in concentration camps throughout Europe. The cruelty was etched into our history.
But people seem to have forgotten. Once again, they follow the siren call of a demigod and wannabe dictator as he preaches insanity as the norm. They buy into it and cheer him on. They have no memory of history and learned nothing from the voices that experienced those times.

How someone can even reach voting age and not be aware of our own history let alone the last 200 years of world history is pathetic.
I guess the Information Age was not the success it was made out to be.
So maybe we are doomed to repeat it?
