(17,110 posts)They will expect their children to volunteer. Of course, if they are rich, they'll have bone spurs. But the ordinary, low class, economically poor MAGA idiot will think of their children dying as an honor to serve their king. These people are much more indoctrinated into the cult than you think.

(51,800 posts)9/11 gave Bush an easy way to take the minds of the people away from the fact that we all thought he was an illegitimate president. Unless Trump can manage a false flag operation on our soil that kills people here in America, there will be no distracting bloodlust cry for revenge from the Right and definitely we won't see the bullying that the rest of us saw when we tried to point out that we were attacking the wrong country.
Even though Cheney was trying to prepare Americans for a long-term presence in the Middle East, it all fizzled out when red America saw their children come home in body bags. They were always the ones that gave Bush II the steam to take a wayward course. And when their steam dissipated, Bush was done. Not even the right-wing church leaders were supporting him anymore. It's not hard to see why. They came out and said that Bush claimed it would be a Shock and Awe and it would be over. Then suddenly, these church leaders were holding funerals and had to explain to their parishioners what went wrong.
So, Trump's grasp on the Congress is a tenuous one. Frankly, even the Republicans know it's a matter of the right moment for him to go too far. And by everyone's estimation, we are almost there.

(17,110 posts)But I disagree with the concept of being able to compare Trump to Bush.
Bush followers (generally) had some intelligence and some ability to see the truth. MAGA is a different breed entirely. They are ignorant, easily led, easily riled up, and they think Trump was sent by God to cleanse the world. Big difference in my opinion. They will gladly send their sons and daughters to die for their perceived, God-sent, icon.
If you are counting on ANY Republicans to stand up to Trump at this point, you are expecting something that I don't believe is ever going to happen. We are beyond that point at this stage of the game.
Thanks for the exchange. Have a great rest of your day!

(3,368 posts)EU might sincere, but t is not and negotiations will break down. Already, EU, Canada, Mexico and the rest of the world are preparing. I think, if t keeps on this path, there's a strong possibility that Canada and Mexico will be used as the international staging grounds for an attack on the u.s., and the eventual outcome that the u.s. will be divided between Canada, Mexico and Europe.
The other possibility that is getting farther away, is the repukes super wealthy donors light a fire under the repukes butts to remove t. Whether they replace him with thiels boy vance is a whole other question.

(36,919 posts)...between Europe and another world war. Most people alive today don't recall the cycle of arming, conquest, and destruction that wracked Europe at roughly twenty-ish year intervals in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the subsequent conflagrations they spawned around the world. In the 1940s it was obvious to everyone. NATO and the United Nations were both created specifically to prevent another European war. They have been successful so far, more-or-less. Conflicts that have occurred were overcome before they spread.
Trump and his minions are playing with fire. The European world wars were unique because each redefined the nature and horror of war. War exerts it's own brand of natural selection on the military-science-industrial machinery of belligerents. Nations went to war in 1917 with cavalry still on horseback and field artillery little changed since the previous century. By 1945 armies were capable of exterminating entire cities at the press of a button, and the alliance that defeated Hitler was breaking apart in animosity. Churchill and FDR both believed that a third world war was inevitable unless European conflicts could be extinguished by agencies designed from the outset to keep the peace. Trump is gleefully undoing all they accomplished, just to sow chaos.

(54,657 posts)James Carville said a few months ago that when tRump personally, finally realizes he is sick and he will not improve, only gets worse, AND he sees his poll numbers drop he will destroy the USA. He hates the USA, he loves money and himself.
Since he is a vengeful, sadistic psychopath his agenda it to take the country down with him. He plans to destroy EVERYTHING and ANYONE who he feels have wronged him and caused him hardships.
WW3 is in his agenda to destroy the USA while he is dying.
