Some 42 percent of voters said he was on track to be one of the worst presidents in American history and 19 percent said he was headed to be one of the best.
One glimmer of good news for Mr. Trump is that the share of voters who say the country is on the right track, while low, has remained largely unchanged since at least April. It also remains higher than it was under his predecessor, Joseph R. Biden Jr., who on this question alienated not just Republicans and independents but also half of Democrats. Under Mr. Trump, most Republicans still feel the country is headed in the right direction.

(7,618 posts)Maybe the 3% that found good fortune in their lives, invested incredibly well or had a very good promotion. It may have little to do with the dick-tator. We may also have more Fettermans out there

(105,697 posts)That's indicative of the feeling for those who might vote for either party in some circumstances - over 2 to 1 "worse". And 43% of them say "on track for one of the worst presidents".

(60,822 posts)I had gone to look to see if there might be a pattern of Democrats being more honest when they were unhappy with where the country was going when there was a Democratic leader than Republican were when the President was Republican.
That was totally wrong. What can be seen is that while there were lows when Democrats were in power, many of the steepest declines were under the Republicans, such as the after Katrina/ financial disaster in GWB's second term, Trump's first term with COVID and Jan 6, and the last year of GHWB, many of the best shifts were under Democrats, Obama and Clinton.
One other observation is that the scale shifted since 2000 and no matter who is in power, the satisfaction never reaches the same level as before. The overwhelming partisanship may be the cause.
Not to mention, Trump should NOT be heartened by where he is now. What is clear is that the early 2025 rise is pretty much gone.
