Once upon a meme, in a faraway land called the Internet, a man named Curtis Yarvin wrote 120,000 words calling for the end of democracy. Most people wouldve laughed. But billionaires dont laughthey fund. And now, the man who once described San Franciscos underclass as potential biodiesel is being taken seriously by people who carry nuclear briefcases. Yarvinformerly Mencius Moldbug, currently the "Dark Elf" of the dissident rightisnt just an edgelord with a blog. Hes the house philosopher of Silicon Autocracy. From whispering sweet nothings to Peter Thiel to influencing J.D. Vances wet dreams of a bureaucracy-free America, Yarvin has become the Rasputin of the red-pilled.
Back in 2008, when Obama still symbolised hope and change, Yarvin was quietly uploading screeds under the alias Mencius Moldbug. His pièce de résistance? An Open Letter to Open-Minded Progressivesa 120,000-word hand grenade tossed into the cathedral of liberal consensus. Yarvin argued that democracy was a bug, not a feature; the American Revolution a tragic mistake; and that wed be better off under a corporate monarchy. His ideal ruler? Not Platos philosopher-king, but a startup bro with nukes and a board of directors.
According to him, America isnt ruled by elected officials. Its ruled by The Cathedralan unholy alliance of media, academia, and bureaucracy. Not through conspiracy, but through soft consensus. NPR, Yale, the Times, and your HR department are all saying the same thing, because they all worship the same gods: Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. And like any heretic, Yarvin wants the Cathedral razed, its priests defrocked, and its temples converted into data centres.
Peter Thiel liked what he saw. So did Vance. Now Yarvins whisper is public policy.
Thiel gave Yarvin his nod of approval, Marc Andreessen calls him a friend, and J.D. Vance openly cites him as inspiration. For the first time in modern politics, someone who believes elections should be abolished is influencing people who can abolish them. When DOGETrumps Department of Government Efficiencypurged civil servants en masse, it echoed Yarvins RAGE plan: Retire All Government Employees. When Trump called Gaza the Riviera of the Middle East, it sounded suspiciously like a Yarvin Substack post.

By the time enough people wake up and realize they are fighting for their very lives, it may be too late.

(52,678 posts)When was this? Perhaps I'm thinking of someone else, but I was under the impression that he drifted into libertarianism and right-wing fantasyland very early in his life. Like in his preteens.

(2,224 posts)the very essence of his hatred. Spoken like a true foreigner that appeals to the very foreign thinking, self imposed exiled haters of humanity that have been exposed in youth and embraced as adults of wearing antisocial behavior, much like a soothing, cozy blanket in place of the love and nurturing that was missing from their lives.
Born of a society of computer geeks that choose to remain at the teat of p.c. generated animation that will do as they've designed, nothing more and nothing less. The adults in their lives exercised no control, no care therefore making their children bastards that want no less than total control of the world they were delivered into.
They want nothing more than to live in a world of their own make believe. They must destroy everything that reality has created in order to rebuild the "new world". They are the new "evil Peter Pans" of the world. Billionaires, power hungry addicts. You know these people, the awkward people that are oddballs around civilized, polite society.
When referring to foreigners, I don't mean logistically. I mean foreign as a contamination because that's exactly what they are. Many were born into money and that is what protected them but too much protection prevents them from learning humility and the need for correction. Some were almost completely abandoned and hungrily seek control in a life without control.
These traits are easily seen in Yarvin, Thiel, Vance, Musk, the Felon and on and on.
Anyway, just my humble opinion from watching human nature and the worst it has to offer.
