NOW: Trader Joe's EMPTIED OUT ahead of Snow Storm in Chelsea NYC
A cashier at the store said conditions were expected to worsen Saturday with demand. The employee noted that Saturdays delivery would be the final truck before the weather arrives, with no additional shipments expected Sunday due to the forecast.

(26,187 posts)The other one is just below 72nd St and Broadway, if I don't need to go to those other stores; bc it is 50% closer to me.
There's a few others I very occasionally go to as well.

(26,187 posts)The first I ever went to and the only one I knew of back then was on 14th St close to ? 3rd Ave or so.
But, oh, the isles were kind of narrow which was frustrating when it was very crowded. I d k which one I heard about next - Chelsea or 72nd St but I went dashing down there to check it.out. Never went back to 14th St! 👍😄

(5,662 posts)There are two now on 14th St, the other is by Avenue A. We used to go to the one 31st and 3rd, a small one down in a basement but way less crazy than either 14th or that 6th ave one, which is served by F, M subways and the PATH to NJ.

(26,187 posts)I still deal with them when I'm extra tired but then I feel annoyed.
Rarely by Ave A, either.
There's on one Columbus Ave in the 90's, which I went to 2x - 3xs during Covid because it was the closest I could get to by bus. I discovered marzipan cheese there. Nice store. Didn't want to take the subway during covid. I rarely took the bus anyway during that time unless I really needed to, or more rarely wanted (vs need) to.
There's a TJ in Harlem on 125th St that I want to check out. It would now be the closest to me. Sometime this Spring, becsuse there also about 2-3 blocks west of the TJ is a Blick Art store which I've been in several times now. That Blick is the closest to me.
Sigh, if they only put one on Fordam Road west of Fordam University! I'd be sooo happy!
I don't have much extra money now, but I love their pretzel bread, the chocolate granola which I sometimes added their feeeze dried strawberries, or raspberries to, Indian food heat up pouches, blue cheese dressing, chocolate covered almonds, a crisped cheese snack, and several more things. I used to be able to buy almost all of that and more at one time. Make 2-3 trips a month, but now I'd have to pick 2 or 3 items/month. Ah well, better than nothing!
I also did shop at Westside Market, Whole Foods, and Fairways!

(7,369 posts)And in Manhattan at least they're semi-civilized. I fear to see what the yahoos in Queens are doing to the local supermarkets with this forecast.

(9,637 posts)They were restocking a bunch of the prepared food but there were a few shelves of veg that were rapidly diminishing. I hazard a guess that by now it looks like the locusts have been there.
Its always so silly because if we cant cook there are thousands of diners, bodegas, restaurants, etc everywhere. You will not starve in NYC!

(6,097 posts)Is about to happen, you really should go. Otherwise sane, sensible people temporarily lose their minds. Ive seen people literally use their arm to push a shelf full of potted meat in the basket. Common sense and practicality take a back seat to what is really needed to endure a disaster.
So whether you need to stock up or not, go to a grocery store during disaster stock up buying. Youll see a whole new side of your friends and neighbors.

(59,795 posts)There was a little more of a crowd than usual, but no crowds to speak of.
I was in a bit of a panic because Air Chance called to tell me to forget my flight booked for Sunday, that all Saturday flights to EU destinations were booked solid, and that they had exactly ONE free seat on the Friday plane from Washington to Paris, and they strongly recommended I grab it. I asked if there would be a rebooking fee. The initial answer was yes, $4000. I said, look, besides the fact that $4000 was highway robbery, I was Air France Platinum For Life, and the rebooking was at THEIR suggestion. The agent on the phone said she agreed, and would consult with her supervisor. Two minutes later, the $4000 was reduced by $4000, i.e. there would be no rebooking fee. Thats a 100% reduction in the real world, 500% in Trumpworld. Downside is the 4 hour wait here in the CDG (Paris) airport for my 50 minute flight to Düsseldorf.
