How long before we wake up and find that the president has suddenly decided that "terrorists" can no longer enter or leave the country. What about Social Security checks, especially for people living abroad, would he get any pushback if he said that "terrorists" can no longer get their Social Security checks?

5. I think that part of it is just performative cruelty.

But also keeping people awaiting deportation in those facilities is a huge profit making opportunity for the friends and families of Republicans and their donors. I heard on Thom Hartmann that the US government pays those facilities $750/day/detainee. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if the facilities are guaranteed a certain head count per day. I know that some private prisons have such guarantees. The local or federal government pays whether the prison beds are filled or not.
