SEN. SCHUMER SAYS DEMS WON'T ADVANCE DHS FUNDING BILL

Chuck Schumer @SenSchumer
What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling—and unacceptable in any American city. Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no.

Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

ICE out of Minnesota NOW.

Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz will brief House Dems during the caucus-wide call>>>

...SEVERAL THREADS JUST TOOK OFF HERE WITH SOME INTERNET ASSHOLES CLAIMING THAT THEY KNEW SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT SCHUMER SUPPORTED, WITH DUERS CALLING FOR HIM TO RESIGN.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? COMPLETELY FALSE.

...this is what the Senate Dem Leader has declared.

He doesn't make these declarations by fiat. This is the collective will of the Senate Democratic caucus who elected him to manage and organize THEIR intentions into unified votes.

NO ONE GETS TO PROJECT FALSE CLAIMS ANYMORE THAT HE SUPPORTS ICE FUNDING.

...what are we waiting for?

Some internet yahoo to set Democrats against their leader again with complete bullshit out of their anti-Democratic party heads?

Listen to the Democratic leader. The caucus has made this decision. That's how this works.

Democrats will not provide votes to advance DHS funding bill in wake of Minneapolis shooting, Schumer says

Nevada Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, who were two of the eight Democrats who voted against their party to end the 43-day government shutdown last year, both said Saturday that they will not support the measure funding DHS. Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, another one of those eight Democrats, already said Friday he would not support funding DHS.

Several other Democratic senators on Saturday said they would not support funding DHS, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Mark Kelly of Arizona, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Mark Warner of Virginia, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Andy Kim of New Jersey and Alex Padilla of California.

They aren't going to even have republicans on board enough to get this one across the finish line after today.

And we don't see Dem Senators betraying us.

Jeffries never should have let 5hose Dems vote for ICE.

...it's not his decision alone. He's not a mob boss or a cult leader

None of the Senators we send to Washington should be expected to take orders from anyone.

When the Dem leader announces a course of action, it's because he's made certain that the legislators who elected him as THEIR leader are united on a path forward.

If that wasn't the case, and he disagreed, or, more importantly if THEY couldn't agree he'd come out and say so.

He said the opposite here, and it's been obvious for over a week that the vote was going this way because of so many key Senate Dems have expressed opposition to the bill.

Acting like he has the power to change those votes, for an example, is silliness. Each and every Senator believes they can be president and conducts themselves individually. We're not a cult.

What I'd agree with is that we have to wait and see is if any of this has any impact on the WH who has no regard for the law.

Folks should understand that most of the money DHS is using today is from the BBB funding bill, and they've already said they've shifted to accessing it.

Someone posted an explanation by @MuellerSheWrote a few days back which I guess a lot of people ignored, believing this action was going to stop them in their tracks, and it won't. It's necessary non-compliance, but it's mostly symbolic.

I can't fathom why that is the case, but it's certainly a popular point of view from some here.

What could such a thing mean in our favor? Why would anyone WANT Schumer NOT to block passage of the bill if it includes the ICE funding?

I'm deeply skeptical of such critics of Democratic leadership. Deeply.
