U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi came under fire over the weekend for what some have called a "breathtaking" plan to extort the state of Minnesota as a means to "seize" the state's "election infrastructure."
Bondi has purportedly already taken the first step toward taking over elections in Minnesota and other U.S. states by sending a letter to Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, according to Democratic Senator Chris Murphy. The letter demands access to data from Minnesota, including voter record information.
Murphy flagged the potential threat.
"Pam Bondi just sent a letter to Minnesota officials saying ICE will leave if the state turns over its voter database to Trump," he wrote. "Guess what? This has never been about safety or immigration. Its a pretext for Trump to take over elections in swing states."
In a video, Murphy went on to explain how he believes this is Bondi and Trump trying to "rig" elections in key jurisdictions.

(22,035 posts)I see a potential NEVADA reaction to the Minnesota ICE travesties as being RADICALLY DIFFERENT.
Pahrump is one of those small towns that really represents what I consider to be the LAST of "The Old West." I left because I found it impossible to make a living there, and was too young to consider an early retirement. But I loved it there, with ALL of the positives and negatives taken into account.
One of the NEGATIVES was the Snowbirds...Pahrump has some of the meanest, most foul-mouthed seniors on the planet. But that's all part of the tapestry. You learn, early on, to never "engage" them, because a lot of them are LOOKING for a FIGHT.
But I see MINNESOTA and NEVADA responding to a Trump invasion in RADICALLY DIFFERENT ways. I see ICE regretting being in Nevada moments after arriving. Yeah...Pahrump IS as RED as RED gets. During the presidential campaigns, the big hotel in town...the Pahrump Nugget...hosted Don Jr and Eric and treated their presence in town in a manner similar to the Beatles first landing at JFK airport in the early Sixties.
That said., I believe Nevada would "respond" to ICE in a much more immediate, abrupt manner, and I base that solely on having lived in Pahrump and understanding how the residents think. feel, and act.

(22,035 posts)And the thing about Pahrump being behind ICE is that it's a town that would be "for" just about anything red and radical until they got bitten by it.
Pahrump tends to react with the gut first and the head second.
And sure, Las Vegas and Reno are not Pahrump. I just don't see an ICE "occupation" in the state having legs. It's the Dick Cheney thing about invading Iraq and being "greeted as liberators."
WHEN I MOVED TO PAHRUMP, the FIRST thing I learned was to NEVER TELL PEOPLE I CAME FROM CALIFORNIA. That's a red flag in that town, because a NUMBER of disenfranchised Californians moved there, and in the eyes of the locals, "tried to turn the town into California."
So overall...taking the "red" thing into account, taking the cultural differences between Pahrump and Las Vegas / Reno into account...I just think that overall, Nevada is not going to be all that "welcoming" to an ICE occupation.

(2,731 posts)The being from California thing is real here in Northern Nevada.
A lot of dumb ass bumper stickers.
Thankfully I moved here in 1965 from CA and it wasnt a thing back then.

(22,035 posts)I think she and her husband moved there in the mid-to-late seventies, when the thing to do was buy an acre or two of land at VERY LOW prices, and put a "manufactured / mobile" home on it. They avoided the "California Curse." But by the time I got there, in 2012, you learned VERY quickly about saying anything OTHER THAN "I'm from California."

(17,825 posts)and there was an anti-Trumpedo protest going on at the intersection of SR. 160 and SR. 372, both sides of the intersection were filled with protestors and given the Nye County Sheriffs Office bent towards the MAGAt's, I've gotta give them credit, they were just standing and observing and not interfering with these peaceful protestors, then, yesterday, I again was making a delivery to WalMart and a pro Trumpedo gathering of MAGAt's were at the same intersection and there were fewer than 25 MAGAt's in attendence so that tells me that even a county as red as Nye County, they've had it with Trumpedo and his criminal org. lawlessness.

(22,035 posts)When I lived there, I saw a dozen or so people with "OBAMA WILL NOT TAKE MY GUNS" signs.
And, Obama didn't take their guns, although I'd say the two events were unrelated.
And when I lived there, there WAS a sort of "underground" of liberals / Democrats who stuck together. It was deep red, to be sure, with a few rays of blue sunlight.
