“House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer suggested on Sunday that President Donald Trump should pull back the thousands of federal officers deployed to Minneapolis, becoming the first prominent Republican to urge Trump to consider local officials’ requests for respite from the aggressive immigration crackdown that has led to two deaths, multiple shootings by federal immigration agents and widespread protests,” NOTUS reports.

Said Comer: “If I were President Trump, I would almost think about, OK, if the mayor and the governor are going to put our ICE officials in harm’s way, and there’s a chance of losing more, you know, innocent lives or whatever, then maybe go to another city.”

James Comer is a douchebag. However, he is a very public facing Republican and that he is suggesting to pull ICE out of Minneapolis is extraordinary.

Again, use the razor. He is doing this out of political self interest, not out of any sort of ideology nor morality.

This is him trying to communicate to Trump (thin skinned, vengeful, capricious) a course of action in a way that is not framed as a retreat, but as a completed mission.

This is GOP playbook 101.

They see what we see, and even their most odious members are trying to figure a way out.

I wouldn't say a dam is breaking, because we are already under the flood. I would just consider the metanarrative of this coming from Comer and not, say, Murkowski or Collins.
