It's the only way an R has a prayer of getting elected to state wide office here in VT. Really anywhere in New England short of Maine and New Hampshire. Mass had Charlie Baker recently and he's cut from the same cloth as Scott.

I'm proud of him. He's not perfect. But he is a decent guy and has the best interests of VT in mind. We don't always see eye to eye on how to address those interests but sometimes we do.

I don't think the governor of Vermont had anything to do with the Senate confirming Trump's cabinet picks, lol. Furthermore, Vermont's 2 senators are a Democrat and Independent who caucuses with the Dems (Peter Welch and Bernie Sanders), so Vermont isn't to blame there, either.

As for all the Republican Senators who helped confirm those ass clowns, shame, shame, shame on them. But what they did was not in any way Gov. Scott's fault, and I for one really appreciate his speaking out.

"Enough ... it's not acceptable for American citizens to be killed by federal agents for exercising their God-given and constitutional rights to protest their government.

"At best, these federal immigration operations are a complete failure of coordination of acceptable public safety and law enforcement practices, training, and leadership.

"At worst, it's a deliberate federal intimidation and incitement of American citizens that's resulting in the murder of Americans. Again, enough is enough.

"The President should pause these operations, de-escalate the situation, and reset the federal government's focus on truly criminal illegal immigrants. In the absence of Presidential action, Congress and the Courts must step up to restore constitutionality."

21. Growing up a half century ago in Texas

I heard on many occasions that a "New York Republican is like a Texas Democrat(ic politician)". Obviously this was a gross oversimplification in a state with the likes of Jim Hightower, Jasmine Crockett, Eddie Bernice Johnson, Barbara Jordan, etc. But it is good to see that there are still Northeastern Republicans who will stand up to authoritarianism.

I live in Vermont now and the average Republican here is no different really than a middle of the road Dem where I grew up. We have some nutters like everyone else, but few have a prayer getting elected to much of anything.

Scott, Charlie Baker recently in Mass, Larry Hogan down in Maryland are all cut from the same cloth. Scott has his moments and I've been very critical of him playing possum recently apparently hoping the regime will ignore us. But these latest events are just to egregious for anyone with a soul or a scrap of decency to let pass. So I'm not too surprised with his statement. We don't see eye to eye on everything, but we do on a lot of things and at the very least, he's a decent human.

Thought last year when Pat Leahy's Senate seat came open, if Scott had ambitions on higher office he might have thought about switching parties. He'd have to since there's no one in hell Vermont is ever sending an R to Congress. Would have been a hell of a primary fight between him and Peter Welch if he had.
