IA-01, IA-03: Two Democrats, one Republican suspend campaigns for Iowa congressional seats
With less than six months until the 2026 primaries, three candidates announced Monday they are ending their campaigns for Iowa U.S. House seats.
In Iowas 3rd Congressional District, state Rep. Jennifer Konfrst, D-Windsor Heights, suspended her campaign and endorsed Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott, D-West Des Moines, to become the Democratic nominee for the seat currently held by GOP Rep. Zach Nunn.
Konfrst said in a statement Monday she decided to run for Congress in January 2025 in order to bring balance back to DC and bring my working class Iowa roots to the job.
Im a sixth generation Iowan and Ive spent most of my life in Iowa, Konfrst said. I love this state, even when it has disappointed me in recent years. I want Iowa to be a kinder place to live and raise a family. I want it to be a place where working class Iowans arent crushed by costs and struggling to get by. I want it to be a place where young Iowans, like my own kids and my students, can build a future for themselves. Thats still my goal and Im ready to explore ways to do that.
