Minnesota State Patrol uses long range acoustic device, first used by military, to disperse Maple Grove protesters

Dozens of protesters were detained Monday night after making a lot of noise outside a hotel where they believed the Border Patrol commander was staying.

Something troopers threatened to use to clear the crowd made a lot of ears perk up. It's called a "long range acoustic device," or LRAD. Minnesota State Patrol troopers used a powerful sound system first used by the military in Maple Grove, Minnesota, to communicate and disperse noisy protesters.

"The LRAD is like a loudspeaker, but it focuses the sound in a narrow cone, so that if you're inside the cone, it's extremely loud," said retired Marine Colonel Mark Cancian, a senior adviser for the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The Minnesota State Patrol says it has had an LRAD since 2013 and uses it to make sure "...entire groups can hear when an event is declared unlawful and they have been told to disperse." During the Maple Grove protest, state patrol says officers checked the volume, issued dispersal notices, and did not use tones or sirens despite what has been reported on social media.

LRADs now being deployed by Minnesota State Police; first ‘test’ on Monday. Also, there’s a report that CBP is wearing yellow vests now, to mimic the MN National Guard.

The post also includes 2 Bluesky lists, one of which says state police were respondibke and one which (incorrectly) says it was ICE.

1. It's the U.S. Mirror, not a very reliable source.
2. Their only source is a social media post by Ed Krassenstein.
3. Listen to the speaker in the video, he identifies himself as Minnesota State Patrol.
4. Maple Grove PD mentions the agencies assisting them (Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and Hennepin Public Order Group), but makes no mention of ICE.

If you want to tell people that ICE was responsible, why bother linking to a post that says it was the Minnesota police?

The Maple Grove Police Department requested the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol for the incident to include their vehicle equipped with the LRAD device. State Patrol troopers are specially trained in the use of the LRAD device for its intended safe use, Wetternach said.
