I was raised in a household where two heterosexual parents reigned.

They didn't respect each other.

My father thought that he was God and had the first, middle, and last word upon all of us. He was a malignant narcissist and authoritarian.

They argued a lot.

We, The Children, felt unease even when there wasn't fighting.

I would have traded my family for gay parents who loved each other and loved us.
