Attorney criticizes ICE for targeting mom, not criminals (Memphis)
https://wreg.com/news/attorney-criticizes-ice-for-targeting-mom-not-criminals/MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An immigration attorney says a Honduran mother picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Memphis last week is proof the Trump administration isn’t just going after ‘the worst of the worst.’
WREG talked to Immigration Attorney Andrew Rankin about the case
“It’s an uncomfortably familiar story of tragedy, heartbreak and arbitrary, the arbitrariness of it all, you were at the wrong place at the wrong time, and now your family is torn apart when you’re already going through your legal proceedings,” said Immigration Attorney Andrew Rankin.
He says he’s seen many similar cases, where people have been picked up in a similar way.
“I think it’s a completely false narrative for the administration to say, ‘we’re going after the worst of the worst.’ I think it’s we’re going after everyone, and criminals are just getting caught up in it,” said Rankin.
