ITS WHY YOU CANT LEGISLATURE CULTURE.
MAGA has never figured the second part out, and for their part, 'conservatives' DO realize it, and just kinda quietly grumble about it most of the time.
It's why MAGA is so pissed off at EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.
It's why we will win these fights long-term, because we let the culture do what it's gonna, and then adjust law to reflect that evolution when the time comes. Obergefell is a perfect example. They're so goddamn furious that they lost that war, not only are they trying to fight it AGAIN, they're moving their hate from 'the gays' to the Trans community, because if we can't feed one into the chipper, any other will do by proxy...that's not because of the specific victim, it's because there must BE a victim, and they don't really care WHO.
All because the culture (and therefore society at large), not only evolves DESPITE them, NONE of their understood levers of Power can control its evolutionary course.
In short, they're all emotional toddlers who think the heavens revolve around ONLY THEM, and anything and everything that proves that incorrect must be hated, at least.
