I am proud of the high school students nationwide walking out of class to protest ICE.

It would be awesome if there was a coordinated way to protest across American schools.

Maybe wear all black one day across America?

This could be a moment to get our youth more deeply engaged with politics. They know something is wrong.

I don’t want any students to get into trouble. I’d like to see school boards collaborate with youth who want to demonstrate dissatisfaction with ICE, however.

I'm not a lawyer but I feel like Tinker allows one to express themself but that doesn't include walking out. OrlandoDem2 Thursday #2

Walking out of class has some issues because schools are dealing with higher levels of absenteeism since Covid.

But I would have supported my students when I was teaching for this

Mind you, I’m happy the youth are protesting.

I don’t want to be guilty of getting anyone in trouble for skipping class or walking off school grounds when they are supposed to be in class. Schools have to keep order. If anything violent happened and schools didn’t try to maintain a learning environment then the school could be accountable.

That said, wearing anti-ICE clothing or other symbols of protest on the same day nationwide might be interesting.

when the white sox were heading into their ws victory, there was a string of do-or-die games. the team called on fans to wear their blacks. it was breathtaking, to me. it just sucked the light out of the stadium.
