Proposal requesting report on workforce impact of immigration laws fails at Tyson shareholders meeting
SPRINGDALE, Ark. A proposal presented to Tyson shareholders requesting a report detailing the impact of U.S. immigration practices on the company has been defeated.
The measure was presented by Magaly Licolli, the executive director of Springdale-based workers' rights group Venceremos, at Tyson's annual shareholders meeting on Feb. 5.

Venceremos claimed in a social media post that 35% of Tyson's workforce is made up of immigrants. Licolli said during the meeting that current concerns over new immigration laws is hurting the staffing at the company's plants.
"Tyson's failure to protect this workforce has created dangerous understaffing," Licolli said. "Fewer workers are expected to produce more at increasingly brutal pace. As production speeds continue to rise, injuries increase and workers physical and mental health deteriorate."

"Tyson added that the requested report would divert the company's resources without providing further value to shareholders."
