The U.S. government added millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin to its Strategic Reserve, then blockchain data showed the wallet was emptied. The transfer involved $6.3 million in seized Bitcoin from the Samourai Wallet case. Under U.S. rules, those coins are supposed to stay on the governments balance sheet. What happened next is why the move is drawing attention far beyond the crypto world.

Much has been said about the bitcoin (BTC) seized from the Silk Road illicit marketplace + "owned" by the US government at the very start of 2025.
A BTC price downturn converged w/ the revelation that the Department of Justice (DoJ) retains the right to sell the coin which sparked investor fears that the authorities either caused or are about to cause a significant cryptocurrency plunge.
Data indicating the selling might have begun gained attention, though a lack of confirmation across multiple sources raised the possibility the blip was little more than a bug, + examination of Federal Bitcoin holdings appears to indicate there has been little selling to date.
