I'm surprised as I didn't think he had it in him.
Newt seems newtered tonight and Will. is going after him.

(17,066 posts)I can't watch, but from the other thread I learned that Williams banned the audience from cheering. Newt's probably lost without crowd reaction.

(30,885 posts)I saw this exchange. Newt was VISIBLY stunned, SPEECHLESS (hardly seems possible, eh?) and just stood there shaking his head. And like HuffPo says, he was "rescued" by a commercial break. But the fucker BLINKED and the world got to see it.
The strongest punch that Romney landed on Gingrich all night came after an extended back and forth over whether Gingrich was a lobbyist for Freddie Mac (see Ryan Grim's previous post).
Romney pointed out that Gingrich's companies were receiving money from big Pharma, and said, "If you're getting paid by health companies that could benefit from a piece of legislation, and you then meet with Republican legislators and encourage them to support that legislation, you can call it whatever you want. I call it influence peddling."
A few moments later, Gingrich, who was clearly on his heels, was saved by a commercial break. But it was the first time in a recent debate that Gingrich has been thrown off balance and knocked back like that.
