Found this on FB... I have been such a fan, and we all should remember how hard this man fought for us! Mr. Frank, I thank you, and I hope you enjoy your retirement!
Tomorrow, December 31, 2012, will be the final day that U.S Representative Barney Frank will serves in Congress. His departure will be something to be mourned for fewer congressmen of the past thirty plus years have done more for the cause of full equality. Though as the first openly gay representative he advanced the rights of gays, he also advanced the rights of everyone else; be it African Americans, women, the poor and the dispossessed, you name it; if you were for freedom, for full equality, then Congressman Barney Frank was on your side and he fought hard for you; whether or not you lived in his congressional district in Massachusetts or in any part of the United States.
It didn't matter if you were gay or straight, he fought for you. He far transcended his office and came to embody America as it should be; as it should have been long ago; an America that recognizes the rights of all Americans to be treated with that same dignity and respect with which they wish to be treated; be they black, white, male, female, gay, straight, Christian, Muslim, or Jew. The only thing that mattered to Barney Frank was that you were a human being and therefore entitled to full human rights. If you truly love this country then you simply have to admire the man for he represented the very best in all of us and our nation is a better country because he served and our world is a better place because he lived.

(19,326 posts)Frank, Kucinich ... are there other champions of the people we are losing?

(27,985 posts)We have plenty of other REAL Democrats. We have Gwen Moore here in WI and Mark Pocan is filling Tammy Baldwin's seat. That's just my state. I'm sure others can name many more REAL DEMOCRATS.

(27,985 posts)Sorry, I knee-jerked and THOUGHT you implied Frank and Kucinich were the ONLY REAL DEMS. I've read similar a LOT here in the past. It bugs me because there are a lot of really good REAL DEMOCRATS. Like Rep. DeFazio.

(966 posts)As always, he was spot on. Mentioning how Republicans love to talk about cutting government, but nobody ever says how they cut police officers or firefighters. The House will be losing a powerful Liberal force
I hope he has a great retirement!

(171,066 posts)hold the spot until Markey actually runs. I don't know how true that is, but don't think the placeholder is all that important. I hope Barney has plans for an extended vacation somewhere warm with his honey.

(22,541 posts)what a tough Congressman he has been. He is so strong and so smart. When you think of his life, for crying out loud, he achieved so much before it was even close to being "acceptable" to discuss LGBT issues publicly. But he was out and proud and a Congressman already. From an important state. With huge responsibilities. I am in awe of the man still.
