MARY PAT HOAG/World-Herald News Service
Newton snuggles between Kailey and Dakota Marks at their rural Pierce home. The Marks family adopted Newton, who had been shot, in September.

PIERCE, Neb. — An excited Newton is a blur of fur as he repeatedly dashes around the room, jumping on one couch, leaping down and then bounding onto the other couch.

He fetches his favorite, well-worn shaggy toy and incessantly licks the hand of a visitor.

Seated in their rural Pierce living room, Kailey Marks, 9, and her brother, Dakota, 7, and their mother, Patty, delight in Newton's antics. He's one of four dogs that call the Marks' acreage home.

Newton's movements seem effortless. He's so full of energy that it's hard to tell — until he pauses now and then — that he has only three legs.

One of our Help Desk guys mixes up all of his words and stammers when he gets exited.

I set it as a ringtone when he calls me.

Yes, I am tap dancing on your grave. And I am the one who alerted your post which was hidden by a 5-1 jury decision.

Buh-bye.

Dogs are so innocent and trusting....I just don't understand who would intentionally injure a dog. Evil people in the world.

if someone will treat an obviously loving and gentle animal in such a way, how must they treat their own children or any person for that matter.
