A smidge of research help?

I've been trying to find a chart or graph that shows guns sales by year, covering at least 10 or 20 year span. Suffice it to say that doing the search on dialup has been frustrating. Can anyone direct me to such a graph/chart?

Much thanks!

"If you want to find out exactly how many guns are sold in the US each year, then the figures are not recorded.

However, if you want to know how many applications there are to buy guns each year, then the latest data from the FBI shows that 2012 looks like a bumper year for gun sales in America."

Didn't look long and hard, but you have to realize that if a lot of sales are between individuals and at gun shows (where no checks are required in many states) that a lot of sales are going to be "invisibie."

Next best thing to sales is background checks. Every sale at a store or (in some states) at gun shows requires a check.

The article I link to also includes historical ownership per household (broken down by type of firearm) and arms production and import figures. The latter are useful if you think of the US as having a "pool" of guns--with production and imports determining what's in it, even if the sales figures don't tell you directly.

It's interesting to note that even as pistols sales increased ownership decreased over decades. Presumably that reflects the number of hunting rifles that were junked as hunting became a less common pasttime.

The article is going to be a slow-load on dial-up.
