'This is how a wave starts': Democrats win another special election

'This is how a wave starts': Democrats win another special election
Phillip M. Bailey
USA TODAY

Democrats continue to do better than expected in state legislative races that national leaders believe are signs of voter frustration with President Donald Trump ahead of the 2026 midterm elections for Congress.

This time the outcome was in a state House race in Louisiana, where Democrat Chasity Verret Martinez defeated Brad Daigle, a Republican, by 24 percentage points on Feb. 7 in a district the president won by 13 percentage points in 2024.

That swing is similar to what transpired earlier in February after a special election for a state Senate seat in Texas, where the Democratic contender trounced their GOP rival and flipped a seat the party hasn't held since 1978.

Democrats already held the state House seat in Louisiana, but Republicans were hoping to flip it after Gov. Jeff Landry, a Trump ally, appointed the previous incumbent to be a commissioner for the state's Department of Alcohol & Tobacco.

If the Democrats retake EVERYTHING in a wave to end all waves and then do exactly NOTHING to arrest, try and convict the criminals that have been let loose on us from 2016 through this morning, it will be a pyrrhic victory and mark just another round of the same old same old bullshit that has allowed this to get as bad as it is...

In 2009, we SHOULD have crippled the executives of EVERY SINGLE MAJOR BANK - forced their resignations for negligence and if they balked we should have charged them with so many crimes they would have BEGGED to be sent to prison for only one lifetime.

In 2016, we SHOULD have elected our first female president and spurned the politics of the clown car and internet fame currency.

In 2020, we SHOULD have re-elected that president and convicted the candidate that conspired with Russian interests and oligarchs to attempt to steal an election, and it they repeated their same J6-21 behavior, they should all still be imprisoned...

Today, we SHOULD promise that full accountability AND punishment to the fullest extent of the law is coming. To quote from "Tombstone" - You tell them I'm coming for them and HELL'S coming with me!!!!

Absent an utter blood-letting correction, I no longer care if we "retake the Congress" or anything else.
Here are 5 things that MUST happen or any 'gains' will be actual losses:

1) ICE - gone, funding removed, responsibilities returned to CBP and all extra funding audited and returned to the Treasury, any department or official unable to account for their funding is immediately sentenced to life in prison at Alligator Alcatraz.

2) Trump tax cuts and tariffs are rescinded and restored to levels that balance the budget within 10 years.

3) Military spending is cut dollar for dollar with domestic priorities for health care and housing affordability initiatives, because after all, why would anyone love their country or even like it very much if they are locked out of any future by the past and present thieves gaming the systems and using power to oppress them?

4) Announce an immediate re-balancing of the SCOTUS from current 9 member to 15 members. Begin work on Constitutional amendments to address the composition and duration of justices appointments and terms.

5) Just flat out apologize to the world for allowing this mess to EVER get to this current childish level of idiocracy brought to life and work diligently to make it impossible in the future.

and won’t be able to until the 28 election, over two and a half years from now. Let’s focus on winning elections first.

those who speak in absolutes like “X can’t happen here” or “Y will definitely happen there.” Reality often proves stronger that our desires.
