http://news.yahoo.com/5-killed-oregon-tour-bus-crash-84-215107655.htmlThe comments on this Yahoo! article make me sick. In response to an article about a bus accident with multiple fatalities, the overwhelming majority of responses appear to be pro-gun folks thinking they're clever by proposing bans on tour buses.
I'm strongly in favor of stricter gun control, but I realize that those on the other side have some substantive arguments to make. But the behavior exhibited on that Yahoo! article really makes me wonder how there can possibly be any sort of sensible dialogue.
This is not to paint all pro-gun people with the same brush, but the reactions on that article really made my jaw drop, even considering the generally low quality of most general Internet discussions.

What's really disturbing is how the gun nuts want Yahoo to change the language of the headline.

(10,718 posts)2. Tour busses aren't designed to kill people
which is a subtle difference well beyond the yahoo comment crowd.

Because "wounded" suggests they were shot. "Injured" suggests they weren't. Don't blame the guns here.

(42,559 posts)4. Sounds like a better argument for mandating seat belts in tour buses.
No tour bus I've ever ridden in has had them, and it always makes me uneasy.

any comparison with tools that do not serve a strictly lethal purpose is fucking stupid and so are the people who make such comments.
