Is this why they wanted a dictatorship in place? To manage the massive upheaval caused by AI?
"I think that we're going to have a human-level performance on most, if not all, professional tasks," Suleyman said in the interview that was published Wednesday. "So white-collar work, where you're sitting down at a computer, either being a lawyer or an accountant or a project manager or a marketing person most of those tasks will be fully automated by an AI within the next 12 to 18 months."
Stuart Russell, a computer scientist who co-authored one of the world's most authoritative books on AI, said in an interview last year that political leaders are looking at "80% unemployment" due to AI, as jobs ranging from surgeons to CEOs are at risk of being replaced.
Dario Amodei, CEO and cofounder of Anthropic, previously said AI could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs.

(31,806 posts)but those "white collar" jobs lost to AI include those of CEO.
They think they are sooo smart, masters of the universe, nothing can touch their "special" talent.
Really they are just lucky. Moderately smart and in the right place at the right time.
They can be replaced by a just OK AI as well as anyone that still writes pearl scripts or python for a living.

His logic, math, and comp sci skills may be more limited

(19,294 posts)wasting one. I'm finding this "feature" more and more prevalent on websites and phone customer service numbers. It's just another ploy to avoid dealing with the public at all. A layer of shit between the company and its customers, making them give up and stop bothering them. A Big New Thing brought in by some monkey lackey to eliminate any chance to talk with genuine people.
I'm seeing more and more billboards touting "AI Customer Service" as I drive through downtown San Francisco. I shudder each time I drive past. Startups burning through their Venture Capital funding grants.

(56,101 posts)It's just operated by a human.
The human looks at an image on a monitor and manipulates a set of tiny surgical instruments that have been snaked into the patient through a small incision.
It's not hard to imagine ai interpreting the image and deciding how to guide the instruments and make the cut or whatever.
And sewing up is clearly something that could be automated.
Of course, you'd need staff to sterilize the room and equipment, set the patient up, and be there in case something goes wrong, but ai could eventually do quite a lot of the process.
Eventually, ai robots would be able to sterilize the room as well as perform other hospital functions as well.
I think patient acceptance might be a bigger hurdle, though....

You can find Hal on YouTube and all the social media except X.
With all the many issues facing human kind, we really did not have time to let Agolf Shitler and his wrecking crew into power. AI poses its own form of major disruption by creating a huge unemployment problem.

(40,500 posts)That's going to be the inevitable consequence of unqualified people using AI to solve problems that require actual intelligence to solve.
I think Microsoft is at the end of their rope. All they have left to sell is empty promises. They might not make the leap into the Next Big Thing in computing, whatever that is, so of course people are going to be laid off.
What's now being promoted as "Artificial Intelligence" is not that Next Big Thing.

(3,305 posts)Absolutely no planning. It seems that the republicans plan is to kill as many as possible. (Even mentioned in the Epstein files with Bill Gates). The tech that they have gotten rich on was handed to them. We the people paid for the research. FEMA had ipads about 10 years before they were announced to the public. Using Star Link. So not Jobs or Musk. The tablet had no markings. They are using our resources and wealth that they have stolen.

(84,782 posts)Also, I'm convinced that automation at that scale would actually be good quality. It also raises the question of whether small businesses would get eaten alive by big ones? Why should some corporation buy a service from someone else when they can build it themselves cheaper? It would in theory drive the entire economy to a few large companies with no other real layers.
I don't think the timing is right if quality if factored in. 5-10 years from now, maybe.
